This marks the eighth film with Scott Adkins that has been directed by Isaac Florentine. In addition to this film, Florentine directed Adkins in Close Range (2015), Ninja: Shadow of a Tear (2013), Ninja (2009), Undisputed 3: Redemption (2010), Undisputed 2: Last Man Standing (2006), The Shepherd (2008), and Special Forces (2003).
The film's original working title was 'Rizk'.
This is the second film starring Scott Adkins that was produced by Premiere Entertainment Group with the first being Incoming (2018).
The original synopsis had Adkins' character living in Oregon instead of Mexico. Also, he was originally supposed to have 2 children (1 boy, 1 girl) who were kidnapped and buried alive with enough oxygen to last 5 hours. This was later changed to having 1 son who was kidnapped and placed in the back of a loading truck with a hose connected to the exhaust pipe to have the fumes fill the inside.
