You only have a few weeks left to get caught up, but thankfully Disney+ has all the movies you’ll need on one platform.
The team-up that fans have been clamoring for for years is finally ready for audiences. “Deadpool & Wolverine” is set to hit movie theaters in the United States on July 26. But just exactly which titles are those? I’ve assembled a handy guide below, so fans of the two characters can be completely caught up before heading to their local cinema next month.
Key Details: Deadpool fans will want to start their marathon with “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” despite the film’s dubious quality.

Patrick Stewart was more popular than Hugh Jackman when Bryan Singer approached him to play Professor Charles Xavier in X-Men. For Star Trek fans, he was the famous Captain Jean-Luc Picard from The Next Generation. Singer got to meet him on the set of 1997’s Conspiracy Theory, which X-Men executive producer Richard Donner directed. However, Stewart was reluctant to take on the role for one reason.

Jennifer Lawrence is inevitably one of those high-profile star-studded celebrities in the entertainment industry, getting under the spotlight every now and then because of her impeccable charm and incredibly down-to-earth personality. Besides the tremendous talent she possesses, she is also not new to pulling stunts like showing up all-natural to an audition for a movie.

Yes, Lawrence actually did show up without makeup and skimpy outfits to the audition as she felt that was exactly what the role of Ree Dolly in Winter’s Bone required of her. But what’s surprising is that while the actress did everything in her power to score the iconic role that even scored her an Oscar nod, her efforts weren’t reciprocated equally and she was paid only $10,000.

Marvel fans have been anticipating the return of several characters in the upcoming, Deadpool & Wolverine. Since the film introduces and plays with the concept of the multiverse, the possibilities are endless when it comes to who exactly is going to show up and who isn’t. With this, fans have been looking forward to two faces making their way into the film; one making a comeback, and the other potentially getting an introduction.

You don't need all your fingers to count the Marvel Comics stories more influential than "X-Men: Days of Future Past."
In the dark future of 2013, America has been conquered by the mutant-hunting Sentinel robots. Most of the X-Men are gone, mutants live in concentration camps, and the world stands on its nuclear brink as the other nations prepare to strike against the Sentinels. To prevent this apocalypse, X-Woman Kate Pryde travels back in time.
You see, things went to Hell on Halloween 1980. Mystique and her Brotherhood of Evil Mutants assassinated anti-mutant Senator Robert Kelly, intent on showing humanity they will supplant them as the Cro-Magnon did the Neanderthal. Instead, this event inflamed anti-mutant sentiment and led to the Sentinel takeover. If Kelly isn't assassinated, maybe this awful future will never happen.
"Days of Future Past" was Byrne's penultimate story on his original "X-Men" and he goes with a banger.

There were many reasons why The Walt Disney Company merged with 21st Century Fox, with the rights to the Fantastic Four and X-Men franchises a small, yet crucial part of the $71.3 billion deal.
Marvel Studios will release The Fantastic Four reboot next year and recently found a writer for its take on the X-Men. While the quality of Fox's Marvel movies fell off a cliff with the likes of Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants, the studio also produced more than a few critical and commercial hits.
Fox had plenty of bold ideas for the Marvel characters it held the rights to before Marvel Studios pulled the plug on them. In this feature, we're revisiting the most intriguing, exciting, and sometimes awful-sounding projects which, in another timeline, you may have watched in a theater by now.

Memorial Day weekend is upon us, and the box office is looking grim. The “Mad Max” prequel “Furiosa” is on track to score the lowest No. 1 Memorial Day weekend in nearly three decades, since 1998’s “Casper,” with an estimated $31 million take. But traditionally, the holiday weekend is a big one for moviegoing – kids are out of school, adults have three days off and the summer movie season is ready to roll.
For that reason, it feels like a good time to look back at the highest-grossing Memorial Day weekend box office openings of all time, dating back to 1996. Now it’s important to note these are Memorial Day weekend openings not Memorial Day weekend box office champions – “The Day After Tomorrow” pulled in over $85 million when it opened in 2004, but the top film at the box office for the holiday weekend was holdover “Shrek 2.”

Fox’s X-Men movies have been integral to bringing the mutants to live-action, laying the groundwork for the live-action debut of several other Marvel characters. While the movies showed that tales of mutants are well-liked by the audience, they are at the same time among the most criticized Marvel movies. From their inconsistent quality to lack of character representation, there are several things fans found an issue with.

Marvel’s animated series for Disney+, X-Men ’97 has provided an acute picture of Rogue, an X-Men character long been ignored in the cinematic representation. Particularly, in the 20th Century Fox’s X-Men movies where Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique got more preference over Anna Paquin’s Rogue.

It’s not that Rogue was completely out of the picture, X-Men makers definitely had the character in mind but the omission of her character was a pain for fans. Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past has celebrated 10 year anniversary and Rogue could have been one important character in the movie but there was a reason why the director decided to leave her out of the theatrical version of the movie.

It’s been 10 years since X-Men: Days of Future Past hit theatres, ushering in an endgame to a universe that would not be replicated until Avengers: Infinity War, four years later. Spoilers ahead for X-Men ’97.
Despite the raucous criticism that arose in the aftermath of Bryan Singerʼs atrocious fourth film (X-Men: Apocalypse) in his X-Men directorial biography, nothing seemed to go right in the mutant universe until Beau DeMayoʼs X-Men ʼ97.
Other than a few good scatterings here and there from Matthew Vaughn (X-Men: First Class) and James Mangold (The Wolverine), the Foxverse suffered and lagged under the curse of franchise sequels. Bryan Singerʼs exit after X2 took the life out of the X-Men universe until he appeared again in 2014 armed with the futuristic and brilliantly paced script of X-Men: Days of Future Past.

The actor, who has been playing the character throughout his Hollywood career, is once again set to embody the fierce mutant in the upcoming film Deadpool & Wolverine and he looks even more remarkable donning the classic Wolverine look on-screen. The film stars Michael Keaton as actor Riggan Thompson, a once-massive Hollywood action star who has aged out of action roles. Notably, Riggan starred in three crowd-pleasing superhero movies about Birdman, a Batman-like vigilante. Keaton, of course, played Batman in 1989, 1991, and 2023.
Riggan is set to star in a high-profile Broadway production, hoping to prove to himself and the world that he is a pliable and capable actor, not merely a nostalgia-laced superhero figure. There is a lot of dialogue in "Birdman" about how superhero movies are the antithesis of art and that superhero actors are aggressively robbed of their thespian instincts. Good actors, Riggan complains, are ripped from meaningful projects and thrust into commercial FX bonanzas where they are expected to do little beyond pose and wear silly costumes.

If Wolverine’s journey into the past from a time-tested, dystopian, and apocalyptic future in X-Men: Days of Future Past seemed like déjà vu to some fans, it could be logically explained to those who were invested in the mutant superhero team in the ’90s.

In simple terms, there once existed a show, namely Wolverine and the X-Men, that highlighted the best version of our mutant allies and in a short time, was tragically subjected to cancelation after only 26 episodes. In retrospect, perhaps it was the short-lived legacy of the series that made it so precious in the people’s minds.

For the first time since his character was seemingly killed off on “General Hospital” earlier this year, actor Nicholas Alexander Chavez (Spencer Cassadine) has officially confirmed his exit from the daytime drama series after posting a formal statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday.
“I’m so appreciative of the opportunity that ‘Gh’ gave me, and I wouldn’t be as busy as I am professionally if it weren’t for the talented producers, writers, directors and fellow actors,” began Chavez in his statement before calling attention to Frank Valentini, the show’s executive producer, where he called him a “mentor and friend.” Chavez also notes he and the show are keeping the door open for a potential return should the opportunity arise.

Halle Berry’s portrayal of Storm, the legendary X-Men character, is a testament to her versatility and talent as an actress. Berry not only brought the beloved comic book mutant to life but also left a lasting impact on fans worldwide through her performance in the X-Men movies from 2000-2014.
Halle Berry as the X-Men mutant Storm
However, despite being synonymous with the X-Men franchise, Halle Berry’s role in the 2014 film X-Men: Days of Future Past was significantly reduced. Although Berry was initially supposed to feature prominently in the 2014 sequel, things changed. Surprisingly, fans couldn’t blame the studio for it.
Halle Berry’s Reduced Screentime in X-Men: Days of Future Past
After being at the forefront of the 2003 movie X2 and playing a significant role as Storm, in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand, Halle Berry returned to reprise her role, one last time, in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

We’re just two weeks away from the 77th Cannes Film Festival, and this morning the august French institution revealed who will determine the winners of this year’s awards. A cross-section of international talent will join “Barbie” and “Lady Bird” director Greta Gerwig, who will lead the panel, in an effort to undoubtedly compare apples to oranges and try to make sense of a diverse slate of films from directors like David Cronenberg, Francis Ford Coppola, Sean Baker, Ali Abbasi, and many others.
Lily Gladstone, who won several Best Actress awards last year (but not the Oscar!) for her revolutionary turn in “Killers of the Flower Moon,” is the other American joining Gerwig. The actress, currently seen on FX/Hulu’s “Under the Bridge,” is returning to Cannes one year after Martin Scorsese and Apple Original Films brought “Flower Moon” to the French Riviera festival for its out-of-competition debut.

Every couple of months in comic book-centric social media circles, someone reposts a comics page in which Deadpool shooting Spider-Man in the head or decapitating an exhausted Bruce Banner. These panels usually spark arguments about whether or not these kills are in character (they aren’t) or if the entire thing is a joke (it is).
Eventually, someone points out that the pages come from Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe, a 2012-2013 miniseries by Cullen Bunn and Dalibor Talajic. The story involves Deadpool’s fourth-wall-breaking powers driving him so mad that he decides to kill all the other Marvel characters because they’re fictional and their lives don’t matter. Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe may have inspired controversy, but it also inspired several sequels, including Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe Again.
From all that we’ve seen so far, Deadpool & Wolverine seems to have little in common with Bunn and Talajic’s take.

X-Men ’97 has been diving into a host of storylines from the comics, not refraining from going towards the more complex plot points that make an appearance in X-Men comics. Characters from the original animated series have been making a comeback in X-Men ’97. This has also allowed a slew of actors from the original series to return to their roles. However there is one actor who has returned in a completely different form, but still holds the fate of his character from X-Men ’97 in his hands.

Janet Jackson and Drew Barrymore are looking back at their acting careers and revealing some iconic movies they passed on.

After being asked if she was supposed to star in The Matrix, she responded, “No.” Jackson added that she couldn’t remember the film’s name but knew who got the role when she turned it down.
“It was…this is horrible,” the Good Times alum said. “I can’t remember the film, but Halle Berry played Storm.” Barrymore exclaimed in response, “X-Men?”
“I couldn’t because I was just embarking on the Janet tour,” Jackson continued. “But I think that’s what you’re confusing it with. It wasn’t The Matrix.”

From Marvel cameos to Wade Wilson breaking the fourth wall, and Wolverine dropping F-bombs, the second trailer had something for everyone, with more fans now joining the threequel hypetrain. The new trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine also gave us a proper glimpse of Hugh Jackman’s Logan in his classic yellow spandex, who looks better than ever as Wolverine.
But despite a plethora of references, there was no sign of Dafne Keen’s X-23 from Logan in the trailer. However, per Insider, not only will she be incorporated into the story, but she’ll reportedly be the one to break the news of her Wolverine’s sacrifice to this variant.

Famke Janssen is not sure what Marvel has planned for the X-Men saga but doesn’t shut the door on the idea of reprising her role of Jean Grey / Phoenix.
Janssen originated the X-Men role in the 2000 film and would go on to play the mutant in 2003’s X2 and 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand. The actress also made cameos in 2013’s The Wolverine and 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.
“I don’t know. I mean, I didn’t expect to come back after dying as Jean Grey,” Janssen told ComicBook in an interview. “I came back as the Phoenix [The Last Stand], and I came back in flashback scenes in The Wolverine, and then in Days of Future Past.”

Hugh Jackman broke all our hearts when he revealed that Logan (2017) was going to be his Wolverine’s swan song. But we can’t really blame him, can we? The man had been playing the character since 2000! Perhaps his desire to leave Wolverine and the rest of the X-Men behind stemmed from his time on X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Hollywood star Patrick Stewart famously portrayed Professor X in the original X-Men franchise alongside a stellar ensemble cast. However, when the 2011 film First Class rebooted the series as a prequel, a fresh cast was introduced, with James McAvoy stepping into the role of Charles Xavier. And the now-83-year-old actor graciously supported McAvoy taking on the role of Professor X.

While he was more than pleased to see McAvoy embodying the younger version of his character, there were moments when Stewart admitted to feeling a bit unsettled by the sight of the 44-year-old actor inhabiting the iconic role he had portrayed for years.

James McAvoy knew just what needed to be done to make his mark in the X-Men franchise as Professor X after Patrick Stewart’s unforgettable performances.
The best thing about bringing comic book characters to life is that they are not limited to just one actor. Over time, many actors have replaced each other in order to bring our favorite superheroes to life. However, sometimes a person is so perfect for a role that you cannot ever imagine someone else in their shoes. The best example to support this statement is Patrick Stewart and his run as Charles Xavier a.k.a. Professor X.

The actor has become synonymous with the role, having played him in several X-Men films, except X-Men: First Class. In this film, James McAvoy took over the responsibility of playing a younger Professor X.

Recently, Marvel fans have been turning their attention to the X-Men. After the release of the popular ‘X-Men ’97,’ excitement is building for the live-action reboot that Feige teased years ago.
Over the years, the X-Men franchise has seen its fair share of live-action adaptations, with varying levels of success. Unfortunately, one of the least well-received adaptations was ‘The New Mutants’ in 2020.
‘The New Mutants’ got mixed reviews because of its uneven pacing, lack of character growth, and storyline that left some feeling disappointed or confused. While some liked its darker tone and unique take on superheroes, others thought it fell short. The movie also faced delays and reshoots, which might have hurt its reception.
Now, 4 years later, and with mutants back in the spotlight, Henrique Zaga hopes for another chance to play Sunspot. In a recent interview with CoveredGeekly, Zaga expressed his desire to return to the MCU as a significant mutant.

In the last few weeks, fans of Marvel media have definitely shifted their focus toward the X-Men. With the highly successful ‘X-Men ’97’ being released, fans are now looking forward to the live-action ‘X-Men’ reboot that Feige promised years ago.
X-Men has seen plenty of live-action adaptations over the years, and some were better received than others. One of the worst adaptations however was ‘The New Mutants’ released in 2020.
‘The New Mutants” received mixed reviews primarily due to its uneven pacing, lack of character development, and a storyline that some found to be underwhelming or disjointed. While some appreciated its darker tone and unique approach to the superhero genre, others felt it didn’t fully deliver on its potential. Additionally, the film underwent significant delays and reshoots, which may have contributed to its less-than-stellar reception.

X-Men ’97 delivered one of its most devastating episodes with Episode 5, which saw the brutal deaths of multiple mutants in the nation of Genosha, while also depicting the tragic fates of Magneto and Gambit. With the estimated number of mutants that were killed still under wraps, the event, as put forth by the writer of the show, was meant to emulate real-world tragedies like 9/11 and the Tulsa Massacre.

However, as the audiences reel from the tragedies of this episode, Marvel has also put forward the means for the attack on Genosha to be undone. I was never a huge fan of Jean Grey until Famke Janssen took on the role in 2000. The former Bond Girl and Rebecca Romijn-Stamos were my main reasons for going to see the movie in the first place. Remember, at this time, we only had a couple of good comic book movies, and the mutants were a considerable gamble for Fox.
Needless to say, Famke Janssen and the rest of the cast blew it out of the water. The X-Men franchise managed to carry on for over two decades with lots of spinoffs, semi-reboots, and more. So, one would think that Janssen would want to once again return to the role of the powerful telepathic.
Well, much like Vinny Jones, we’re losing another cameo. Famke Janssen has clearly stated that she won’t be reuniting with Hugh Jackman in the Fox X-Men universe and MCU.

It takes The Matrix about three minutes to become the coolest thing you’ve ever seen. That’s when Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) evades a cop by breaking his arm, punching his throat, and then freezing mid-air so the camera can whip around her before she unleashes a kick that sends him across the room. Three minutes. And everything changed.
But the most impressive part may be the fact that the amazing stuff doesn’t stop there. For the 117 minutes that follow, The Matrix directors Lana and Lilly Wachowski offer an improbable mix of kung fu action, Continental philosophy, and fin de siècle cool. It’s no wonder their movie became a hit in theaters and on video. Nor is it any wonder that so, so many movies and TV shows borrowed from The Matrix, at once cementing the original film’s legacy while also cheapening its effect. In immediate years...

It’s easy to forget about the X-Men in a world where the Avengers have dominated the box office for over a decade. Despite both teams being introduced to the world with their comic books in 1963, the Avengers always seemed to edge ahead in popular culture. ‘Avengers: Endgame’ is the second highest grossing movie of all time with $2.7 billion, and ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ is the closest X-Men film to that success with $746 million.
The debate over which team is better may never end, but ‘X-Men ‘97’ provides a strong argument for fans on the mutants’ side. The ten-episode Disney+ series picks up right after the events of ‘X-Men: The Animated Series,’ which ran from 1992 to 1997. Episodes release weekly, and the first three are streaming now. “To me, my X-Men” yelled Cyclops as he cemented his role as the leader of the X-Men. Well, at least, that’s what happened in the comic books and X-Men ’97. Having almost a central figure authority in the recently released animated show, the character of Cyclops has been getting much love and fame from around the world.
And that is how things were supposed to be before the live-action movies came into existence. Marvel President Kevin Feige made sure not to repeat the mistake that Fox Studios did in their live-action films which was one of the factors for the later decline of popularity of the X-Men films!

The Ryan Reynolds starrer Deadpool & Wolverine is gearing up for release in July of this year. The film would be the sole MCU theatrical release of the year and would formally introduce the X-Men into the MCU. Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and a host of other characters from Fox Studios’ Marvel entries are confirmed to appear in the film.
Recently, popular scooper Can We Get Some Toast reported that the majority of the film would be taking place in The Void, a space that was introduced in Loki. The teaser of the film indicated that the film would be a multiversal story with Deadpool going to different timelines. The scooper also mentioned how this direction was vastly different from the original script for the film, which reportedly took place during the original X-Men trilogy.
