There are many factors that contributed to The Boys' runaway success on Prime Video. When the show was released, the comic books it was based on already had a fan base, and many people who had never heard of them were drawn to the concept of superhero genre satire.
Solid writing, brilliant acting, and quality production were the icing on the cake. And even though the show has been exploring the same battle of Billy Butcher vs. Homelander for 3 seasons now, fans are just as excited to see the same thing continue in an upcoming season 4. Especially since there might be a shift in the power dynamics.
Will Homelander Kill Billy Butcher?
From a show standpoint alone, so far the odds of either Homelander or Billy Buther winning are even. They both have a lot of strength and power, but they both also have some deep flaws that will only...

It’s the beginning of the end for The Boys.
The adult superhero universe of humans vs. supes (as superheroes are called in the series) will soon come to end after season five, showrunner Eric Kripke announced on Tuesday, just two days before the hit Amazon series prepares to launch its fourth season with a three-episode premiere.
On his social media, Kripke announced his intentions to the fanbase by putting up a final script page for the forthcoming finale of season four. After redacting the script, the bottom of the page read: “See You For Our Final Season, Motherfuckers!”
So, why is the creator of such a widely popular (and timely) satirical series about superheroes ready to pull the plug? In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter later on Tuesday, Kripke had a big grin on his face in anticipation of being asked that question.

Amazon Prime Video’s hit series, The Boys, premiered back in 2019. With three seasons already aired, the show is gearing up for the release of its fourth season tomorrow. But before the season had even premiered, Amazon had already announced that the show will be renewed for yet another season.

Eric Kripke has repeatedly said he has a five-season plan for The Boys and, earlier today, we learned that he's sticking to it. Yes, the series is ending with season 5, a shock given the apparent popularity of the Prime Video series which has so far spawned animated and live-action spin-offs.
Entertainment Weekly caught up with the producer and writer to get further clarification on the decision to wrap up one of the streamer's biggest shows.
"I'm excited to finally execute a 5-season plan," Kripke admits, referring to his five-season plan for Supernatural (a show which lasted a decade beyond that). "That's very exciting for me."
"Part of it is such a wonky stupid screenwriter thing but three and five are the big magical numbers for writing. Three is movie acts, TV acts are five," he adds. "Jokes are a runner of three for five. Five just seems like a good round number.

After the two-fold delay involving the pandemic and the following WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Prime Video’s The Boys, among numerous other shows, has severely lagged at marketing its future plans to the public. As productions slowly get back on track, updates regarding the fates of some of the industry’s most prized shows are also being revealed accordingly.
Antony Starr as Homelander [Credit: Prime Video]However, as some projects find their new start at the end of summer, few others hunker down for their final season in the sun. The most prominent among the latter are Yellowstone and The Boys – both of which have become endearing to the masses due to their highly uninhibited content.

When Empire caught up with Eric Kripke for this month's issue of the magazine, The Boys' showrunner revealed that he'd already gotten his superviolent superhero series' ending all planned out. "Whenever that last episode occurs, I know what happens," he shared. Well now we know when exactly that last episode will occur. Taking to Twitter/X earlier today, Kripke confirmed that the battle between Karl Urban's Billy Butcher and Antony Starr's Homelander will come to "a gory, epic, moist climax" with its fifth — and now final — season. Check out the announcement below;
Kripke's announcement comes on the same week that The Boys Season 4, described by Empire's own Amon Warmann as the show's "best season yet", premieres on Prime Video UK. In this latest run of episodes from the R-rated, claret-soaked, and ever-so-sweary satire, The Boys are out to stop not only Homelander, but also Oval Office-bound head-popping super...

Get yourself a blood-spatter poncho and a glass of Stillwell’s milk because Amazon is superhero-landing with some big news for fans of The Boys. The Boys showrunner, Eric Kripke, announced the fan-favorite show’s ending on Twitter, saying, “Season 4 premiere week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the final season!” Kripke noted in the wake of glowing reviews for Season 4 arriving online. “Always my plan, I just had to be cagey till I got the final Ok from Vought. Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax.”

“The Boys” are back this week — but they’ll soon be gone for good.
Amazon’s satirical superhero drama will be ending with Season 5, which was announced by showrunner Eric Kripke Tuesday morning, ahead of the Season 4 debut Thursday. The news is bittersweet for fans of the saga between villainous supe Homelander (Antony Starr) and morally gray supe-hunter Butcher (Karl Urban) because while it’s the beginning of the end, it’s also going out exactly as the creator intended it to.
According to Kripke, “The Boys” Season 5 is currently being written and the plan is to shoot the eight-episode final installment from November 2024 through mid-2025.
Here, Kripke breaks down his choice to conclude “The Boys” and discusses what the decision means for the future of Amazon’s other live-action shows based on the comic book adaptation: spinoff “Gen V” and two in development projects, one set in Mexico and...

Seth Rogen’s initial years in the entertainment industry were anything but iconic. However, he had a dream to pursue, and he relentlessly wanted to pursue his ambition. Though he started as an actor in the industry, his talents truly shined when he transitioned from an actor to a screenwriter and producer.

Although his acting career was not disappointing compared to his creative genius in screenwriting, there’s a huge gap, and now being a writer, it feels that Rogen is a completely different entity. Being in Hollywood for so many years has made him a major figure in the industry, and his works have resonated well with the viewers.
One of the key aspects that make him a beloved figure in the industry is his openness about his personal experiences and now he has a bit of uplifting advice for actors, who are quitting on their dreams.

The Boys are finally back and they are even more wild and bloody with a touch of animal mayhem. The much-awaited Season 4 of the popular Prime Video superhero series The Boys will be released the day after tomorrow on the streaming service but before that, we are here to review the upcoming season, and after watching all the episodes I can confidently say that this might be the best season of The Boys yet.
Season 4 begins with The Boys struggling to figure out the Victoria Newman problem as she is about to become the Vice President of America and with Butcher only having months to live, he is trying to get Ryan back from Homelander. Plot: The world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power. Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca’s son as well as his job as The Boys’ leader. The rest of the team are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late.
Review: While most viewers have loved The Boys since it debuted, I was lukewarm on the first season. With improvements in the second and third years, I have become a big fan of the Prime Video series and its bleakly hilarious take on the superhero genre with each successive season. Jake Gyllenhaal had his mind blown when the actor had a revelation during an interview for Disney’s 2022 film Strange World. The actor starred in the film with Dennis Quaid who played the father of Gyllenhaal’s character. However, Gyllenhaal got the shock of his life when he realized that this was not the only time Dennis Quaid had played his father.
Jake Gyllenhaal’s Strange World || Disney
In an interview with Yahoo Entertainment, Jake Gyllenhaal came to the realization that he and Dennis Quaid had actually worked in a film before. The actors had recorded their lines separately for Strange World, which gave them little time to interact with each other during the production of the film. The press junket was where the actors spent most of their time together, and a prompt from the journalist interviewing them reminded Gyllenhaal that he had shared the screen with Dennis Quaid before.

A long-rumored limited run of five seasons always made a lot of sense for Amazon Prime Video’s comedic hit The Boys. While the show was a critical and commercial success from its premiere in 2019 and onward, the nature of its premise is hard to maintain.
The Boys‘ satire of our current political and social era is so acute that every subsequent season carries with it the potential for audience burnout. Hell, audiences already seem fairly fed up with the superhero storytelling institutions that The Boys parodies in the first place. That’s why it was surprising when showrunner Eric Kripke seemed to intimate that he had rethought his initial plans for a five-season run.
In a May 28 interview with Inverse, Kripke said “No one was more wrong in all of human history about how many seasons their show was going to go than this guy.” While many naturally assumed...

With each passing day, as we watch new franchises come out of the factory that’s called the mainstream entertainment industry, there’s one phrase penned by Jonathan Nolan that continues to grow in relevance: “You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.” When The Boys started its journey, the superhero subgenre was at its peak, with each spandex-donning movie hitting a billion dollars like it was no big deal. So, seeing a show dedicated to satirizing the ridiculousness of it all was refreshing and exhilarating. Since Eric Kripke’s show commented on the Trump era of politics, it resonated with a lot of people and triggered the Maga-hat-wearing mob. Now, the show is in its fourth season. The superhero subgenre has witnessed a change. The USA has lived through the Biden presidency. But it seems like The Boys has not only...

Well, it's fair to say we didn't see this news coming.
Just a couple of hours after the review embargo for The Boys season 4 lifted, showrunner Eric Kripke has confirmed that the upcoming fifth season will also be the show's last.
"[The Boys] Season 4 Premiere Week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the Final Season!" he announced on X. "Always my plan, I just had to be cagey till I got the final Ok from Vought. Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax. Watch Season 4 in 2 Days, cause the end has begun!"
The biggest criticism in the reviews that hit today is it feels like the show is now treading water and, to some extent, running on fumes. With that in mind, we're glad to see Kripke is sticking to his original five-season plan rather than stretching this story out any further simply to capitalise on The Boys' popularity.

Each season is anticipated with bated breath as the Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg-produced comic book adaptation keeps raising the bar on showing the most shocking visuals of any television program ever. Prime Video gave the series an early season four renewal, which audiences have been waiting for. The wait is over, as the eight-episode fourth season is set to premiere this week.
Season four of The Boys picks up after Victoria Neuman becomes the Vice Presidential candidate to the chagrin Huey (Jack Quaid), Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), and the rest of The Boys. With Homelander (Antony Starr) on trial for a very public murder, the world is divided between those who support the leader of The Seven and those who side with Annie “Starlight” January (Erin Moriarty). The fourth season of The Boys will be released on June 13, which only fuels the interest of fans.
We have chosen the most convincing theories about what awaits us in the new chapter of the main show about superheroes.
1. Billy Butcher Becomes a Supe
At the end of season three, it was revealed that multiple doses of the temporary Compound V were too dangerous. Billy Butcher was told he would live another year at most.
And there is one way to save him. It is entirely possible that Butcher would simply take the permanent Compound V, which would make him a true Supe, and it would be very ironic given his hatred of them.
2. Stan Edgar Returns
Many fans are sure that such a charismatic character cannot just disappear from the show. They are sure that he is still secretly working with Victoria and that everything that happened was his...

Well, well, how quickly things change. All along, the original plan for Prime Video's hit superhero supervillain series "The Boys" has been to span a total of five seasons -- at least according to creator Eric Kripke's response to a question-and-answer session on Twitter back in October of 2020. But having couched it in terms of another failed prediction he once made while working on "Supernatural," which he similarly envisioned to last five seasons and ended up watching it expand to 15, Kripke knows better than anyone that writers make plans and the television gods laugh. Well, consider them well and truly busting a gut over today's news that the creative's initial idea for "The Boys" is, in fact, coming to fruition after all. Just days before season 4 debuts, Kripke has taken to social media (via Variety) to announce that the upcoming fifth season will also be the show's last. As...

The Boys is rapidly coming to a conclusion.
Just days before the Season 4 release on June 13, creator Eric Kripke took to social media to share the news.
The Boys Season 5 will be its last.
I have already seen the fourth season, and it's spinning wildly toward an endpoint.
The latest season is darker than ever, with very few laughs for enjoyment. Instead, the laughter is uncomfortable and cringeworthy.

Yes, that's been a trademark of The Boys' humor, but as the series leans hard into our country's (and the world's) political division, the show does nothing to suggest we have a way out other than all-out war.
It's so on the nose politically that the entertainment comes in spurts, and anger and resentment build quickly.

Hits from the weekend
Streaming movies and shows made up the majority of the top five titles this past weekend, based on traffic to their IMDb pages. That’s thanks to a trio of Netflix titles and the new Star Wars series, “The Acolyte.” In theaters, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence’s fourth installment in the Bad Boys franchise delivered Hollywood a much-needed box office win, while ‘The Watchers’—the mystery-horror film starring Dakota Fanning—drew enough interest to land in the top 10.
By the time ‘Hit Man’ dropped on Netflix, movie fans were probably well aware of who Glen Powell was, but the popularity of the comedic action film brought more IMDb users’ attention to co-star Adria Arjona and director Richard Linklater. If Arjona looked familiar to viewers, it’s likely from several supporting roles in other streaming hits like “Good Omens,” “Andor,” and ‘6 Underground’ with Ryan Reynolds.
It’s not often that directors crack the top five (or even top 10) names on IMDb, but viewers were clearly interested to know more about Richard Linklater, the versatile and irreverent director of indie films like ‘Slacker’ and ‘Dazed and Confused,’ who also found mainstream recognition with ‘School of Rock.’
Also big on Netflix were the French killer shark movie ‘Under Paris’ and the Benedict Cumberbatch miniseries “Eric,” which released all six episodes two weeks ago. Elsewhere in streaming, “The Acolyte” has had no trouble finding its audience on Disney+. According to Disney, the show drew 4.8 million viewers on its first day, making it the streamer’s biggest hit of 2024 to date. Amandla Stenberg and Dafne Keen were in the top five names on IMDb, and both will likely remain popular through the show’s first season, which ends on July 16.
What’s in store for the coming week?
Expect next weekend to be all about “The Boys,” the raunchy comic book adaptation from showrunner Eric Kripke. The first three episodes of Season 4 arrive Thursday (6/13) on Prime Video, with new episodes dropping weekly. Returning cast members Karl Urban, Antony Starr, and Erin Moriarty will likely climb IMDb’s STARmeter, but a few new supes on the scene could put some breakouts in the spotlight, such as Valorie Curry (playing Firecracker) or Susan Heyward (as Sister Sage).
In theaters, Disney and Pixar’s animated ‘Inside Out 2’ is a shoo-in to win next weekend’s box office, though it may not have the same interest on IMDb as the streaming releases. The original voice cast of emotions are returning, but it’s more likely one of the newcomers will spike in popularity, like Maya Hawke (“Stranger Things”) as Anxiety, Ayo Edibiri (“The Bear”) as Envy, or Paul Walter Houser (‘I, Tonya,’ ‘Richard Jewell’) as Embarrassment.

Kripke’s post is accompanied by a script page purportedly from the season four finale — everything is redacted save for a “fade in” camera direction at the top of the page and the following message from the writer: “See you for our final season, motherfuckers!”

The Boys is one of the most popular superhero series in the world at this moment. The twisted take on the superhero genre, adapted from the comic book of the same name, became a major hit for Amazon Prime and a series that has pushed the boundaries of what can be shown on TV in more ways than one. After three successful seasons and a spin-off series, the fourth season of The Boys is coming back later this year, with the premiere scheduled for June 13, 2024, but some critics have already had the pleasure of seeing at least some of the scheduled episodes, and the first reactions are in. Based on what the initial reviews are claiming, the fourth season is more or less good, although the early scores are not as high as before.
As stated, the fourth season will officially air on Amazon Prime on June 13, 2024, and will consist of eight episodes,...

The Boys are back in town for a fourth season of Prime Video's ultra-violent comic book series, and the review embargo has now lifted ahead of Thursday's 3-episode premiere.
The majority of critics were able to check out the full 8 episodes, and while the initial verdicts are (mostly) positive, it's looking like season 4 might prove to be the show's most divisive yet.
It sounds like The Boys is still just as wickedly funny, outrageous and shocking as ever, but it may have actually become too dark for some critics, who feel the sociopolitical satire has begun to hit a bit too close to the bone, making for a "depressing" watch.
Season 4 has also been criticized for its repetitiveness, treading over the same ground as previous seasons without pushing the story forward into new territory.
As things stand, The Boys season 4 sits at 71% on Rotten Tomatoes. Have a read through some...

The Boys S4: Our Best Guesses on Sister Sage and Firecracker's Powers - Main Image
One unique aspect of The Boys is the clever invention of powers each hero possesses after consuming Compound V. This time, fans are curious about what Sister Sage and Firecracker's powers may be in The Boys season 4. Any guesses? We have our own.

We may have yet to see Sister Sage (played by Susan Heyward) in action in The Boys season 4 trailer, however, fans can already surmise some of her qualities based on her Supe name and costume alone.

Showrunner Eric Kripke says he suggested spots for ad breaks in the show’s fourth season, but there’s no guarantee Amazon followed his advice.
In a move that Billy Butcher would surely label diabolical, Amazon followed a unique strategy for the rollout of the ad-supported plan on its flagship streaming service Prime Video earlier this year. That new subscription tier became available in January, but unlike most other streamers who have launched ads in recent years, Prime Video decided to make it the default option and compel viewers who wanted to go ad-free to pay $2.99 per month extra to upgrade. That means that the new season of “The Boys” — which debuts on Thursday, June 13 — will be accompanied by ads for the first time in the show’s history. Late in “The Boys” Season 4, there’s a relatively minor moment that carries major weight. A hero (it’s best not to say whom) brings an injured person to the hospital. As they turn to go, they see a little boy watching nearby. At first, the kid is awestruck. You can almost hear him thinking, “Wow, a real superhero! Right in front of me!” Then, as he realizes that the hero may have just saved someone’s life, he smiles. And the hero smiles back. That’s it. That’s the scene — so classic it could’ve been from any number of comic book adaptations over the last half-century, and so unironically sweet that “The Boys” may have been one of the last super-stories to be guessed.
Showrunner Eric Kripke’s Prime Video series isn’t averse to earnestness. After all, one hero’s journey starts with the soul-shattering loss of his girlfriend.

It’s rare for a show that appears to be running out of ideas to return two years later with the creative force that courses through the fourth season of Prime Video’s “The Boys.” After a couple of seasons of arguable wheel-spinning, seasons that seemed desperate to top the shock value of the first but didn’t do much with the complex themes or dense potential world-building in its abundance of ideas, “The Boys” oozes creative confidence with this outing and sets the table in a manner that bodes well for the future of this massive streaming hit.

You have to hand it to “The Boys.” Production on Season 4 of the Amazon action satire wrapped over a year ago, with its release delayed by subsequent strikes in the entertainment industry. The premiere still manages to be almost uncannily well-timed, with characters waiting on a verdict from the breathlessly publicized Manhattan trial of a polarizing political figure. Granted, the figure in question is Homelander (Antony Starr), the psychopathic Captain America type who serves as the series’ archvillain, not a certain former — and possibly future — president. But the trial’s subject is a clear allusion to an infamous Trumpism. When Homelander eye-lasered a protester for throwing a plastic bottle at his son, he essentially shot somebody in the middle of 5th Avenue. And in the ever-cynical world of “The Boys,” Homelander loses about as much support for it as his real-life inspiration.

In a time when superhero subversions are a dime a dozen, Prime Video series "The Boys" has stood out with its razor-sharp satire. Based on the comic book series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, "The Boys" is a perverse, hyper-violent take on superheroes that riffs on everything from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to Fox News to Saturday morning cartoons. It follows the titular "Boys," a ragtag team of anti-superhero vigilantes under the leadership of ex-special forces soldier Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) as they try to take down the evil Vought corporation and its elite team of superheroes, the Seven.
The show has become infamous for its ridiculous gore gags and sex jokes, testing the boundaries of good taste as often as superhumanly possible. Somebody needed to rise up and poke fun at the McU-ification of superheroes and all the subsequent corporate bootlicking it encouraged. And no, it couldn’t only be Marvel’s in-house Greek chorus, Deadpool.
This (increasingly loose) TV adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comic series wasn’t just up to the task, it was perfect for it. The Boys has turned in three great seasons of satire on the superhero industrial complex that at times feels like a 1:1 comparison to the real world, albeit with some names changed, some superpowers added, and some penises exploded. It’s only fitting then that, as the Marvel Cinematic Universe begins to lag as a culturally dominant force,...

At this point, the formula for The Boys is well established. Take one helping of superpowered mayhem, add a side of relatable human drama, season with a generous amount of social commentary, and voilà — you have one of the best dramas on TV over the last five years. It’s a testament to series showrunner Eric Kripke that the recipe hasn’t yet grown stale. In its fourth season, the capacity to shock hasn’t dimmed, the political and cultural satire remains razor-sharp, and the character drama excavates new depths. The titular team may be as dysfunctional as ever, but make no mistake: The Boys is at the top of its game.
In part, that’s because of the recent additions. As the smartest person on the planet, Sage (Susan Heyward) is easily Homelander’s (Antony Starr) most dangerous new ally. And though he would never admit it,...

Sony’s Wayne Garvie has urged the European industry to echo counterparts in the U.S. by turning TV shows into franchises.
“Once the Americans have a successful returning series they do something we Europeans seem to be incapable of – turn them into franchises,” the boss of The Crown outfit’s international productions said this morning.
Turning to his native UK, Garvie said the local industry has been “brilliant at creating non-scripted franchises but really poor in drama,” floating that Doctor Who, which is co-produced by Sony-owned Bad Wolf, is “the only example I can think of.” In the U.S., on the other hand, he flagged Sony franchises such as Cobra Kai, Breaking Bad and The Boys.
“It is obviously not easy to do and you must start with initial success but once we have that why aren’t we thinking more about how to build that world out?...
