Marvel's "What If...?" animated series on Disney+ has allowed fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to see into parallel dimensions featuring alternate versions of their favorite superheroes and villains, from Black Panther to Thanos. Some of those characters, like Captain Carter, even made it into "Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness" before being hilariously torn apart by Scarlet Witch.
Now, Marvel Studios is teaming up with Industrial Light & Magic's Ilm Immersive group to deliver a virtual reality experience that will take MCU fans into the animated world of "What If...?" in order to stop variants of the multiverse from harnessing the power of the Infinity Stones. This is the first-ever interactive Disney+ original story, and it will be available exclusively on the Apple Vision Pro as a free app for a limited time. For those curious to see more, you can watch a trailer below that shows off the gameplay,...

In the X-Men '97 season 1 finale, the team was thrown backwards (and forwards) in time. In 3000 B.C., we watched as Professor X, Magneto, Beast, Rogue and Nightcrawler encountered a young En Sabah Nur, a.k.a. Apocalypse.
Meanwhile, in 3060 A.D., Cyclops and Jean Grey crossed paths with a younger version of their son, Cable. As for Wolverine, Morph, Jubilee, and Storm, they're currently unaccounted for (though it's been confirmed they're not in the present and are scattered across one or both timelines).
Talking to IGN (via Toonado.com), supervising director Jake Castorena teased plans for Apocalypse in X-Men '97 season 2, explaining why the decision was made to put the spotlight back on the iconic villain.
"With the X-Men, for better or for worse, all roads usually end up leading to Apocalypse, right? It's either Apocalypse, Sinister, or Magneto," he says. "What I will say is we do things on purpose.

In the first chapter of X-Men '97's epic three-part "Tolerance Is Extinction" finale, we were reunited with the wall-crawler from Spider-Man: The Animated Series. The show ran from 1994 to 1998, and wrapped up on an open-ended note, so just seeing him again felt like a very big deal.
However, the finale brought an even bigger surprise when we learned that Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson had been reunited. Needless to say, none of us expected X-Men '97 to resolve a decades-old cliffhanger, but we now know the hero managed to track her down after she was lost in the Multiverse.
In an interview with Screen Rant (via Toonado.com), Marvel Studios Head of TV, Streaming, and Animation, Brad Winderbaum touched on the excitement surrounding a moment many fans hope is setting the stage for a Spider-Man '98 revival on Disney+.

X-Men '97 has featured a handful of memorable cameos from some high-profile Marvel characters, including Spider-Man and Captain America.
The latter is best known for leading The Avengers, and with everything this world's mutants are going through - including Magneto seemingly declaring war on humanity - could a clash between them and the X-Men be on the horizon?
Talking to ComicBook.com (via Toonado.com), Professor X actor Ross Marquand shared his belief that there's "a real chance" the two teams go head-to-head in an animated adaptation of Avengers vs. X-Men.
"You saw what happened in the last episode [with] Rogue and Captain America," Marquand started. "There's a real chance that that could happen. He can't fly. Captain can't fly. She threw that in the side of a snowy mountain."
"I'm sure it's lodged in there 50 feet deep. He ain't gonna find that shield," he joked. "It's not like Mjolnir where...

Chris Evans first played Steve Rogers in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger and, after multiple appearances across the MCU (including in the Avengers and Spider-Man franchises), the actor finally bid farewell to the role in Avengers: Endgame.
Steve has been M.I.A. ever since, though his final fate still hasn't been revealed to us. However, with the Multiverse in play, there are endless possibilities regarding Captain America's return in Avengers: Secret Wars.
Over the weekend, it was reported that Evans is now a lock for that movie. While we anticipate him assembling alongside the other original six Avengers as the "classic" Cap, we'd bet on the actor playing a few different Variants as well.
Below, you'll find some of the most exciting, intriguing, and likely possibilities...

One of the most interesting upcoming MCU projects is certainly ‘Marvel Zombies.’ Not much is known regarding the plot of the series except for the fact that it won’t be a direct adaptation of the famous comic storyline, but we can assume that it’s going to have plenty of gore and action sequences.

One of the best things about the X-Men is the vast roster of characters that allow a myriad of people to see themselves as a member of the mutant superhero team. But if you were a kid who wanted to be all of the mutants, you may have gravitated towards Morph, the shapeshifter who could temporarily take on the appearance and superpowers of any other mutant out there. During my childhood years, there was many an argument about who would get the honor of pretending to be Morph on the playground.
Even though Morph (originally voiced by Ron Rubin) seemed to meet his maker in the first episode of the original "X-Men: The Animated Series," the character eventually returned from his presumed grave, albeit under the influence of the villain Mr. Sinister. Morph used his shapeshifting abilities to create chaos among the X-Men on many occasions, but thankfully, he was only acting on Mr.

At a time when the Marvel Cinematic Universe feels more and more creatively stale, with the box office reflecting this, "Marvel's What If...?" is a breath of fresh air. The animated show offers writers and animators an opportunity to tell the kind of wildly creative stories that the McU's movies can't — both because they have to adhere to the Marvel formula and continuity, and because of budget constraints.
Though the first season was a bit formulaic, with most of the episodes following the plot of a previously-released Marvel movie (but with a little twist), the second season did a better job of exploring the infinite possibilities of the MCU multiverse. As Vanessa Armstrong wrote in her review for /Film, season 2 was "a zany, refreshing mix of stories."

Marvel's "What If..." has employed a mix of reprisals and recasts from the movies. Captain Peggy Carter may have the super soldier serum, and Strange Supreme went down a darker path, but they're still played by Hayley Atwell and Benedict Cumberbatch like the originals. Tragically, T'Challa-as-Star-Lord also went down as Chadwick Boseman's final performance.

This article contains spoilers for "What If...?" season 2.
"What If...?" season 2 only just premiered on Disney+ and brought with it another round of fascinating adventures through the multiverse. The Marvel Cinematic Universe could have turned out any number of ways -- had certain characters made different choices along the way. This new season kicks off with a Nebula-focused episode titled "What If... Nebula Joined the Nova Corps?" As the title implies, it sees the adopted daughter of Thanos taking something of a hero's turn as a member of the Nova Corps. But that gritty hero's journey almost wandered down a dark path.
Showrunner A.C. Bradley recently sat down with IGN to break down the show's second season. In discussing the season premiere, which was written by Matthew Chauncey, Bradley explained that the whole thing came about simply because the show's creatives love Karen Gillan's work as Nebula (and...

Marvel's "What If...?" season 1 had a lot of conceptual promise and so-so execution. Seeing the promise of the multiverse fulfilled via a highly imaginative animated anthology series was exciting, yet the art style and animation left a lot to be desired.
For season 2, Marvel doubled down on the zaniness of the concept, serving up even wilder stories and visuals. As Vanessa Armstrong wrote in her review for /FIlm, season 2 is "a zany, refreshing mix of stories." There's a "Wild Races" episode, a "Die Hard" homage, an adaptation of Neil Gaiman's comic book story "Marvel 1602," and even an episode about a new hero named Kahhori, a First Nations woman of the Mohawk tribe.
Then there's the episode that almost was -- one that was deemed too dark for "What If...?" season 2. Speaking with IGN, head writer and creator A.C. Bradley talked about how the second season of the show was...

Marvel Studios made a historic move by introducing a pair of new superheroes in the franchise's latest series, What If...? Season 2.
Amidst nearly two dozen classic superheroes from the MCU who will come back into the fray in What If...?, Season 2 also introduced the McU's first-ever original animated superhero in Devery Jacobs' Kahhori.
Jacobs even made history on her own with her role in this series and her upcoming live-action debut in January's Echo, showing how much faith Marvel has in her to help drive the Multiverse Saga forward.

Tony Stark's Iron Man has returned to the McU's center stage but without Robert Downey Jr.
Thanks to the Multiverse, Iron Man was back mixing it up with the Avengers and coming face to face with the Grandmaster on Sakaar in What If...? Season 2's Christmas Eve and Christmas Day episodes.
However, unlike his fellow Avengers stars, it's not Robert Downey Jr. bringing his iconic character to life on Disney+ but rather voice actor Mick Wingert.

Marvel's "What If...?" is creatively one of the best things to happen to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. More than big crossover movie events, more than the many, many TV shows expanding the world through new kinds of characters, it's "What If...?" that really fulfills the potential of the MCU. "Star Wars" didn't become such a massive and beloved franchise with the movies or the shows alone. It did so with the expanded universe of books, games, and comics exploring smaller, weirder aspects of the galaxy. "What If...?" season 1 wasn't perfect, and it still adhered too close to the formula of the McU's films, but it showed promise in how it unleashed the imagination of what was possible in the MCU.
Now, season 2 will attempt to build on that by telling more stories that aren't simply pulled from the McU's films. Take the brief trailer shots of what looks like an...

Despite recent reports saying X-Men '97 would see a Disney+ release in early 2024, a new report from Marvel indicates that this may not end up being the case.
X-Men '97 will be the third fully-animated addition to the MCU, following What If...? and I Am Groot, both of which saw second seasons released in 2023.
Beyond that, as Phases 5 and 6 continue, Marvel plans to bring in even more animated content, with shows like Marvel Zombies and Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (originally Spider-Man: Freshman Year).

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is filled with majestic superheroes, each with a unique set of powers and an origin story to explain why they became the hero they are. But what if the stories you knew about these heroes changed? That’s the premise behind “What If…?” which debuts its second season on Disney+ on Friday, Dec. 22. The animated series shows what might result if small changes were made in the origin stories of fan-favorite heroes like Iron Man, Captain America and Thor. The actor playing the McU's historic new original superhero, Kahhori, was finally revealed by Marvel Studios.
It was announced earlier this year that at least one of the upcoming episodes of What If...? Season 2 will center around a character named Kahhori, a Native American warrior who is a brand-new MCU original superhero.
In a recent post from Marvel Studios Canada's Instagram page, it was confirmed that actor Devery Jacobs will voice Kahhori in Season 2 of the McU's animated What If...? series.

There's been much talk of late about how the Marvel Cinematic Universe is on the decline, that superhero movies have become oversaturated, and that the general public has been fed at least one multiverse too many.
There's truth to that statement if box office numbers are any indication. And I'd argue that some of that decline is in the over-bloated plotlines that fans got tired of keeping straight. But there's an upside to the multiverse phenomenon: Setting stories in different worlds with different rules opens the door to fresh storytelling. Even more so, telling a tale in one of these alternative realities unshackles the writer from being beholden to the machinations of the overarching sagas the MCU likes to tell.
That's been the appeal of Marvel's animated series, "What If...?" The show takes the multiverse premise and is given the freedom to create fantastical situations that would never occur on...

Even with its shortcomings, Marvel's "What If...?" season 1 is the closest the Marvel Cinematic Universe has come to realizing the true potential of the multiverse in terms of storytelling. The hope, then, is that the animated series will dispense with the training wheels entirely with its next batch of episodes and really have fun with the concept, rather than restricting itself to re-imagining events from MCU movies and TV shows past. And so far, it appears season 2 will do just that, with an episode inspired by the Neil Gaiman-penned Elizabethan era comic arc "1602" and another one centered on a brand-new character in the form of the Mohawk hero Kahhori.
Of course, there's still plenty of room for new stories featuring old favorites, including treasured supporting players and frequent comic relief sidekicks Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) and Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau). Those two specifically will team up in "What If.

When Marvel's "What If...?" season 2 premieres later this month, fans will be taking another look at some other pockets of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Like last season, the Watcher (Jeffrey Wright) observes (and sometimes takes part in) some alternate versions of the lives of our villains and heroes. This time around, we're also getting a brand new hero named Kahhori, a First Nations woman of the Mohawk tribe. Kahhori was created for the animated series with a lot of influence and input from the Mohawk people. The episode is done completely in the Mohawk language with subtitles, and the people running the show are very excited about it.
