- In the scene where Godzilla destroys the train, shots of terrified people watching were cut from the U.S. version of the film.
- The obscure 1957 French version of the film is a unique cut which combines elements and footage from the re-edited 1956 U.S. version "Godzilla, King of the Monsters!" and the uncut 1954 Japanese version "Godzilla", running approximately 92 minutes. The linear narrative flow of the Japanese cut is kept, but the narrations and insertions of Raymond Burr's character in the U.S. version are also maintained. It is fully dubbed into French with a more sizable cast than the handful of actors in the U.S. version, so the language barrier presented in "Godzilla, King of the Monsters!" is eliminated.
- The German version of the film significantly toned down its dark and tragic tone and its thematic allegory, removing all of the scenes referencing the A-bombs and H-bombs and altering the dialogue - for example, in the famous scene during Godzilla's rampage, where a mother attempts to comfort her children by saying that they will soon be reunited with their deceased father, the woman's line is changed to "Don't worry, the mean Godzilla won't get you, your mother will protect you."
- Another version of "Godzilla" was released in 1977 in Italy. Supervised by director Luigi Cozzi, it used a crude colorization process in which colored gels were pasted over general areas of the frames; at the time, the only other method of colorizing a film was to hand paint every frame as if making an animated film, which was impossible in the time frame that Cozzi was given. Additional footage was added from other films and war reels to pad out the U.S. version's 80-minute run time. The crude colorizing and badly matching extra footage was added due to Italian theaters refusing to show a black and white film that was less than 90 minutes long (Cozzi could only get rights to the shorter U.S. version, so he could not reintroduce the cut scenes from the Japanese version). This Italian version has been nicknamed "Cozzilla" by Godzilla fans.
- Much of the debate scene on the floor of the Diet Building was cut from the U.S. version of the film.
- The bon voyage scene in the U.S. version of the film was heavily edited, with the scene of Serizawa silently watching as Emiko and the rest of the party wave good-bye deleted.
- The scene where Emiko is in Ogata's apartment as he is exiting his shower was cut from the U.S. version of the film.
- The scene where the couple that appear on the cruise ship later talk about Godzilla was cut from the U.S. version of the film.
