I am an award-winning documentary/factual editor (Emmy, RTS & BAFTA) with 25 years' experience, who has worked in a variety of genres including sensitive single camera documentaries, large multi camera entertainment/constructed factual programs, music videos, film trailers and commercials. I have also worked as a lead editor on established series, as well as setting up new limited series and formats.
I started my career in 1998, when I joined Video Networks a company who were pioneering interactive TV with a service called HomeChoice. It was an on-demand video service like Netflix, but pre-Netflix. I became a Senior Promo Producer, I was in charge of writing, directing and editing music promos and film trailers for the music and film channels. I wrote, directed, produced, edited, created graphics, audio mixed and graded at speed. Honing my editorial skills, as well as my technical skills. In my spare time I shot, directed and edited music videos and short films. As we had over 30 edit systems (The largest number outside of the education sector at the time) this allowed me to take part in many beta tests for software and hardware, so am I very flexible with what equipment I work on.
In 2002 I became a freelance editor, working on a variety of long and short form projects with the aim to work on long form documentaries. Having been inspired by When We Were Kings, an archive documentary about Muhammad Ali's Rumble in the Jungle fight with George Foreman. Which I had watched at university when I was studying animation.
I am very passionate about storytelling and am very adaptable in the edit. I can work unattended or with a director/producer and I can take a project from conception to broadcast.
