Spoiler Alert: Details follow for Season 11, Episode 13 of “The Masked Singer,” “Finale: One Mask Takes It All,” which aired May 22 on Fox.
“The Masked Singer” winner Vanessa Hudgens admits she didn’t necessarily play the hiding game: At least among her friends and fans, they figured out it was her under the Goldfish costume rather quickly.
“Rita [Ora] guessed it was me straight from the jump,” Hudgens said. “But she’s also my friend. And we saw each other a few days before the first episode!”
Hudgens beat out Scott Porter, who had performed this season as Gumball, to win the “Masked Singer” trophy. Coincidentally, both Hudgens and Porter previously starred together in 2009’s “Bandslam.”
Despite their history, Hudgens said the production kept her completely in the dark as to who her competitors were. “I was so invested every step of the way,” she said. “I was trying really hard to...

Reflecting on her career, Lena Waithe says, “I think about legacy a lot.” The writer-producer-actor, whose body of work includes creating Showtime drama The Chi and BET’s Twenties, has been on a steady upward trajectory since winning a primetime Emmy Award in 2017 for outstanding writing on Netflix’s Master of None. But for Waithe, success raised questions about where she was headed. “I didn’t know what I was actually trying to build. I wanted to have real agency over my career, but it was also not just about me, it’s about who I can work with.”
Together with Rishi Rajani, a studio exec who honed his skills at 20th Century Fox, UTA, Paradigm, and Studio 8, Waithe has created a multi-platform entertainment company that accomplishes both. At Hillman Grad Productions, Waithe and Rishi develop projects that often go against the industry grain, while also hiring up-and-coming talent...

File this evergreen headline under “no alarms and no surprises.” After working together on There Will Be Blood, The Master, Inherent Vice, Junun, Phantom Thread, and Licorice Pizza, Jonny Greenwood has confirmed he’s already started to work on the score for the next feature from Paul Thomas Anderson.
“I’m incredibly lucky that Paul indulges me and gives me so much time to experiment and compose,” Greenwood tells The Guardian. “That’s not usually the case in Hollywood, where the soundtrack writers are often very far down the food chain, and are sometimes given only a couple of days to bash out a complete score.”
This will mark the first time a Greenwood score will be heard in IMAX theaters as PTA’s currently untitled film has been set for an August 8, 2025 wide release from WB. With a cast of Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Wood Harris,...

According to Zack Snyder, one of the most significant Dceu storylines seems to have originated from none other than Oscar-winning star Leonardo DiCaprio. The 49-year-old actor was once considered for the role of Lex Luthor, Superman’s greatest enemy. In an exclusive interview with Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the director disclosed that he had a meeting with the Titanic star to discuss the role in his 2016 superhero flick, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
However, Jesse Eisenberg ultimately won the role. Snyder also recalled that DiCaprio came up with the plan to pit Henry Cavill’s Superman against the Justice League. Sadly, the Dceu timeline came to an end in 2023 (Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom), capping ten years of superhero films that started with Snyder’s Man of Steel (2013).

Across his nine features thus far, Paul Thomas Anderson has never had a prime summer release, but that is about to change when it comes to his currently untitled, maybe Vineland tenth feature. With production still underway across California with the cast of Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Wood Harris, Alana Haim, and Chase Infiniti, Warner Bros. has now set an August 8, 2025 wide release, including an IMAX run, for what they describe as an “event film.”
It’s not the first time the director’s work has been seen on an IMAX screen as his Thom Yorke collaboration Anima received a limited run in the format. Though no IMAX cameras have been spotted on set thus far, VistaVision cameras have been seen shooting in 35mm, which should look gorgeous if 70mm prints are made. The next Paul Thomas Anderson movie has a release date.
While announcing several calendar placements for its upcoming theatrical slate, Warner Bros. revealed on Tuesday that Anderson’s untitled project starring Leonardo DiCaprio will arrive in theaters (including IMAX venues) on August 8, 2025.
Little is officially known about Anderson’s new movie, other than its cast: DiCaprio, Sean Penn, “Licorice Pizza” breakout Alana Haim, “A Thousand and One” star Teyana Taylor, and Regina Hall. Unofficially, however, the film has a reported budget north of $115 million, according to Variety. There has also been broad and unconfirmed speculation that the untitled feature is at least partially inspired or based on Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel “Vineland.” That book was set in the mid-1980s, although it’s unclear if Anderson’s potential take on the material would follow its same timeline. (Anderson previously adapted Pynchon’s “Inherent Vice” for the big screen.)

Paul Thomas Anderson’s next film doesn’t yet have a title, but it does have a release date, and it will even open in IMAX theaters.
Warner Bros. has dated the untitled PTA movie for a release on August 8, 2025. The movie officially stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Wood Harris, Alana Haim, and Chase Infiniti.
Anderson is writing, directing, and producing the film, now his 10th narrative feature, with Sara Murphy and Adam Somner also producing.
Warner Bros. is calling PTA’s next movie an “event film,” and its release plans on IMAX are a coup for the director and the studio. Little else is known about it, as Anderson loves working in secrecy, but the film is said to be contemporary in its setting, and it’s felt to be his most “commercial” project to date.
The film is currently in production in California.

Warner Bros has pushed Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II starring Robert Pattinson back a year from October 3, 2025, to October 2, 2026, and set Paul Thomas Anderson’s crime tale starring Leonard DiCaprio for August 8, 2025.
It is understood the date change for The Batman Part II stems from the Hollywood strikes, which halted and severely disrupted studio production for close to six months last year.
The sequel to Reeves’ 2022 $772.2m global hit steers clear of DC Studios co-head James Gunn’s Superman on July 11, 2025, which will be the first film on release from the restructured division.

Robert Pattinson is delaying his return to Gotham.
The gritty comic book sequel “The Batman Part II,” in which the actor will play the Caped Crusader again, has been postponed a year. It will debut in theaters on Oct. 2, 2026 instead of its original date of Oct. 3, 2025.
In addition to the move, Warner Bros., the studio behind the superhero tentpole, has shuffled around other titles on its release calendar. Maggie Gyllenhaal’s “The Bride,” starring Christian Bale, Jessie Buckley and Peter Sarsgaard, will take “The Batman” sequel’s old spot on Oct. 3, 2025. And “Alto Knights,” a mob drama starring two Robert De Niros, has relocated from Nov. 15, 2024 to March 21, 2025.
The studio also added the latest film from director Paul Thomas Anderson to its schedule, slating it for Aug. 8, 2025. The movie, labeled by Warner Bros. as “An Untitled Paul Thomas Anderson Event Film,” will be released in Imax. Little is known about the project,...

The Batman Part II is flying off to a new date. The film will now open Oct. 2, 2026. That’s back a full year from its previous date.
Batman 2 wasn’t the only notable change made to Warner Bros. release calendar on Tuesday: The Maggie Gyllenhaal-directed The Bride!, starring Christian Bale, will take Batman 2‘s old date of Oct. 3, 2025; Barry Levinson’s gangster pic Alto Nights is being delayed from Nov. 24, 2024, to March 21, 2025; and Paul Thomas Anderson’s untitled, star-studded event pic has landed an Aug. 8, 2025, release date. All of the titles will be offered in Imax.
The sequel to Matt Reeves’ The Batman was first announced at CinemaCon in April 2022. In August of that year, Mattson Tomlin boarded to co-write with Reeves, and in late January 2023, DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran gave the film a title and date of Oct. 3, 2025. Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2 is no longer opening on October 3, 2025 — a new launchpad for comic book movies. Instead, it is going a year later on October, 2, 2026. We hear the new date is due to the aftermath of the dual strikes.
The spacing also will give some distance from James Gunn’s Superman, which is hitting cinemas on July 11, 2025. That film will kick off Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Studios, the first phase titled “Gods and Monsters.”
Reeves’ Batman is not part of the Gunn universe, but it’s all kosher to co-exist. Gunn has another Batman movie in the works, Batman: Brave and the Bold, with Andy Muschietti directing. Robert Pattinson plays Batman in Reeves’ universe. The role will be recast for Muschietti’s film.

Trace Lysette is weighing in on the discourse of cis actors playing trans roles.
At the 2024 Film Independent Spirit Awards, which took place at the beach in Santa Monica, California on Sunday, February 25, Trace Lysette caught up with IndieWire on the “blue” carpet. The trans actress was nominated for Best Lead Performance for her performance in “Monica,” alongside fellow nominees Jessica Chastain, Greta Lee, Natalie Portman, Judy Reyes, Franz Rogowski, Andrew Scott, and Teyana Taylor — Jeffrey Wright ultimately won for “American Fiction.”
Whether it’s appropriate for cis actors to play trans roles has been a matter of increasing debate.
“Well, if all things were equal, maybe it wouldn’t be as big of a deal as it is, but all things are not equal,” Lysette told IndieWire at the Spirits’ blue carpet. “If there’s a trans role, I believe that trans actors should get first dibs.”

Jeffrey Wright took home the award for best lead performance at the 2024 Film Independent Spirit Awards for his role in American Fiction.
When Wright made his way to the stage to accept the award from presenter Colman Domingo, he expressed how thrilled he was to receive the honor from the actor. “Wow, thank you, thank you. And to receive this from you, Colman, man…it’s just a beautiful gift,” he gushed.
The American Fiction star had one of the most candid, heartfelt speeches of the night.
“It’s funny, you go to these awards shows, [and] you kind of grow tired of them and then you get one and uh…kind of changes the vibe,” he joked, met with raucous laughter.
He recalled attending the Independent Spirit Awards back in 1997, when he was up for best debut performance for his starring role in Basquiat. “The first time I was here at the Independent Spirit Awards,...

Another big award show took place this weekend (in addition to the SAG Awards), the Film Independent Spirit Awards, which celebrates indie film and TV. One thing about this awards show is that their idea of independent sometimes makes me scratch my head a bit, with HBO’s big-budget The Last of Us nominated a whole bunch in the TV category, along with Netflix’s Beef and several other streaming shows, which I’m not sure one could call independent. For films, there’s a $30 million budget cap. For TV, I’m honestly not sure what the benchmark is because Last of Us was notoriously an expensive show to shoot, costing at least $100 million.
Indeed, The Last of Us won some key awards on the TV side, winning Best Supporting Performance (for Nick Offerman) and Best Breakthrough Performance (for Keivonn Montreal Woodard). Over on the film side, American Fiction and...

From the first moments of A.V. Rockwell’s debut feature, A Thousand and One, the audience is in the company of Teyana Taylor’s vivid portrayal of Inez, a woman in 1994 Harlem. She’s just out of Rikers and on a mission to rescue her son, Terry, out of the foster care system. As Terry grows older, the viewer follows their loving, messy relationship in a changing city. After winning the 2023 Grand Jury Prize at Sundance, A Thousand and One has continued to rack up accolades for Taylor and Rockwell, who now finds herself nominated for first-time feature film at the DGA Awards. She recently talked to THR about the inception of her indelible central character and her portrait of New York.
What is the origin of Inez?
It was really about creating a character that I wanted to see, especially in the way that she was representing moms of color.

As Paul Thomas Anderson shoots his untitled new movie, the film’s ensemble cast continues to take shape with a mixture of returning Anderson collaborators and new faces.
IndieWire has confirmed that five new actors have been added to the project, including “Licorice Pizza” star Alana Haim, “A Thousand and One” standout Teyana Taylor, Shayna McHale, Wood Harris, and newcomer Chase Infiniti. The news was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The actors join a cast headlined by Leonardo DiCaprio, Regina Hall, and Sean Penn. Penn also appeared alongside Haim in “Licorice Pizza.”
Anderson is known for repeatedly collaborating with the same actors, so the addition of Haim (whom he has also directed in several music videos) will not be surprising to his fans. The film’s growing cast suggests that audiences could be in for another large ensemble piece from Anderson in the vein of “Boogie Nights,” “Magnolia,” or “Licorice Pizza.

With production beginning in Northern California for Paul Thomas Anderson’s next feature, the casting announcements are finally starting to flow in. After Leonardo DiCaprio, Regina Hall, and Sean Penn were announced, we learned this week that newcomer Chase Infiniti is part of the ensemble.
Now, THR reports Licorice Pizza star Alana Haim will join the project, alongside Teyana Taylor (A Thousand and One), Wood Harris, and Shayna McHayle aka Junglepussy (Support the Girls).
The recent set photos have also further fueled much speculation that Paul Thomas Anderson is taking on a contemporary update of Thomas Pynchon’s Vineland, shifting its 1984-set depiction of Reagan’s reign of terror to the Maga state of today. If this proves to be the case, we would imagine DiCaprio takes the lead Zoyd Wheeler role, Regina Hall is Frenesi Gates, Chase Infiniti is their daughter Prairie, and Sean Penn plays the villainous Brock Vond.
