Being a Florida Man, I’m used to seeing people start fights over dumb stuff. In Publix, people threw their hands over toilet paper. At Epcot, I witnessed one guy bowing up at another guy because he had accidentally knocked over his colorful margarita.
So, when Fox 35 reported that two women got into fisticuffs over not only Walt Disney World tickets but also a golf cart, I didn’t even bat an eyelash. It must be another day in the Sunshine State, I thought.
Katherine Northrup and Gina Danforth decided to throw down in Wildwood, Florida (about an hour away from Disney). Why? The visitors to our fine State got into an argument regarding the two things mentioned above.
What was the extent of the disagreement? How did the golf cart and Walt Disney World tickets relate to one another? No one seems to know!

Gawrsh! It’s time to fire up the rumor mill because fresh hearsay suggests a Kingdom Hearts movie is in the works. Dear Kingdom Hearts fans, before you start seeing stars and giving your keyblade replica a shine, it’s important to note that this news is as unofficial as it comes. DisInsider says Square Enix‘s beloved Disney x Final Fantasy crossover is getting the motion picture treatment. The site’s founder, Skyler Shuler, wrote about the adaptation rumor in a mailbag post, saying a source confirmed the pie-in-the-sky project.
Shuler’s source says the Kingdom Hearts movie began as a Disney+ project but is now heading to theaters. The rumor corresponds with a post shared by industry leaker DanielRPK, who also claims a silver screen adaptation of the character-rich RPG is happening. DisInsider says Disney has yet to greenlight the film, so take all this with a grain of salt.

Watch just about any media from the mid-20th century and you'll quickly notice something: people smoked a lot more onscreen back then -- like, a lot more. Those born in the current century would no doubt be shocked to learn that even beloved cartoon icons like Donald Duck would light up a pipe or puff away on a stogie when the occasion merited (and that's to say nothing of commercials like the jaw-dropping marketing campaign where Fred Flinstone gets his buddy Barney and his wife Wilma hooked on Winston cigarettes).
Smoking was a useful visual shorthand for a variety of things. When Cruella De Vil spewed a wreath of putrid yellow smoke from her infamous cigarette holder in Disney's animated "101 Dalmatians," you just knew she was trouble, even before dog-napping entered the equation. Alternatively, when Cary Grant carefully lit Eva Marie Saint's cigarette in perhaps the ultimate Alfred Hitchcock picture,...

A rare collection of artwork featuring concepts for Disneyland rides and areas that never were built has been sold at auction. Heritage Auctions handled the sales earlier this month in Beverly Hills, California.
The event spotlighted hand-drawn sketches from the Bradley/Bushman Early Disneyland Archives, which conceptualized rides and themed lands for the Disney theme park in Anaheim.
Among the theme park plans and concepts was an “Anything Can Happen” land, and plans for underwater aquariums. In the latter, guests would have walked into the mouths of the crocodile from Peter Pan or Monstro, the whale from Pinocchio, to view marine life.
Another concept detailed an 80-foot-tall statue of Goofy dressed as a clown. The colossus would have been located where the theme park’s Sleeping Beauty Castle now stands.
The “Anything Can Happen” land would’ve been based on “Anything Can Happen Day,” a weekly theme on The Mickey Mouse Club television series,...

Outside, the rain was relentless; inside the lobby of Los Angeles’ NuArt Theater, so was the cheer. At a sold-out March 6 premiere for the crowdsource-funded “Our T2 Remake,” a full-length parody of “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” produced entirely with AI tools, the energy recalled Sundance circa 1995.
Among the supporters were Caleb Ward, co-founder of AI filmmaking education platform Curious Refuge and creator of last year’s viral AI short “Star Wars by Wes Anderson;” Dave Clark, who created another viral AI video with his Adidas spec and whose short film “Another” would precede the feature; Nem Perez, founder of AI storyboarding mobile app Storyblocker Studios and the director of “T2 Remake”; and Jeremy Boxer, the former Vimeo creative director who now runs consultancy Boxer and is the cofounder of community group Friends With AI.

Trian Partners is revealing more detail on its plans to shake up Disney, should founder Nelson Peltz and fellow nominee Jay Rasulo be elected to Disney’s corporate board next month.
As part of its ongoing proxy fight with Disney, Trian published a 130-page whitepaper, accusing Disney’s current board of directors of being “the root cause of Disney’s underperformance” in recent years.
But while much of the paper assigns blame to the board and reiterates many of the claims made by Trian previously, it also offers suggestions for what the company should do, and what Peltz and Rasulo would push for, should they win board seats at Disney’s April 3 annual meeting.
Among the suggestions are to “right-size” both Disney’s studio business and its linear TV networks.
“We believe that it is unlikely that Disney can realize its full potential if it refuses to sufficiently right-size expenses...

Despite Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, and Pluto being classified as the five "main" characters in the Disney canon (aka "The Fab Five"), it's actually the barrel-chested Pete who arrived before them all in 1925. Originally, Pete was a bear but evolved into Mickey's archnemesis for a time before settling into his role as the loudmouth cat often playing opposite of Goofy as we know and love him today. This new affiliation began in 1992 with the animated series "Goof Troop," which followed Goofy as a single father after he and his son Max moved back to his hometown of Spoonerville. The family ends up moving next door to Pete, a used car salesman with the integrity of Harry Wormwood in "Matilda," his real-estate agent wife Peg, their son P.J., and daughter Pistol. Max and P.J. become fast friends, forcing the two families to connect, and inspiring plenty of hijinks because of it.

Should The Walt Disney Co. put all of its real estate holdings into a Reit (a “real estate investment trust”)? Should the company pour resources into virtual reality and artificial intelligence?
Blackwells Capital thinks so.
While Disney is responding to an activist investor fight from Nelson Peltz and his Trian Partners, it also fending off another push for board seats from a smaller activist firm: Blackwells Capital, run by Jason Aintabi. Blackwells filed its proxy statement Tuesday, and also included a whitepaper proposing some ideas to “transform” the company.
Disney has already urged its shareholders not to vote for Trian’s nominees Peltz and James Rasulo, and urged a vote against Blackwells nominees Leah Solivan, Jessica Schell, and Craig Hatkoff (it recruited Donald Duck’s uncle Professor Ludwig Von Drake in the fight).

Disney, assailed by activist investors, launched a new website today called VoteDisney with a video featuring Donald Duck’s uncle and other animated creatures telling shareholders what to do to keep the company’s board of directors intact, and showing them how to do it.
“Friends, relatives and estimated chairman, you’re probably all wondering what we’re doing here today,” said Professor Ludwig Von Drake, the 1961 Disney character, leading into a voiceover that insisted, “We need you to all vote for your board … voting is easy.”

Formats come with expectations and assumptions – not always warranted, but they’re along for the ride already.
For example: Mickey Mouse: Zombie Coffee , a bande desinée by Régis Loisel, originally published by Éditions Glénat in France in 2016 in (waves hands) some format, possibly within Le Journal du Mickey , is laid out like a newspaper comic. Four panels across, most of the time, about four times wider than tall, two strips to a page, 137 strips total.
As an American comics reader, on first glance I assumed this was a little less than half a year of dailies in some newspaper, and my thought was “who knew there was a regular Mickey Mouse strip in French newspapers?”
But I think that’s wrong. I think these appeared in that magazine, weekly – maybe one at a time, maybe two or three on a page each issue – and that the strip format is either...

Mickey Mouse has got a knife. With those simple words, and the corresponding horror movie trailer which goes with them, it’s become clear that the 21st century is about to get weird. Well, weirder, at any rate.
Nearly a hundred years after Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks animated the short film “Steamboat Willie,” which introduced a rodent who helped Walt build an empire, the same short cartoon has entered the public domain as of Jan. 1, 2024. And already there have been as many new Mickey Mouse slasher projects announced as there’ve been days in the New Year.
The first and clearly most advanced is Mickey’s Mouse Trap, a film set in a fictional amusement park where teenagers are picked off one at a time by a man with uncomfortably familiar-looking mouse ears. The logline promises (or warns?): “It’s Alex’s 21st Birthday, but she’s stuck...

Jennifer Gatero’s Netflix film, An Instant Dad, parachutes us into the bachelor life of Ricky (Blessing Lung’aho). He is a serial bachelor who gets stage fright even at the thought of sharing breakfast with his one-night stands. To avoid this, he had invented a “mom trick.” Whenever his last-night flings try to get close to him, he sends an SMS message to his best friend. Ricky’s friend would later call him, pretending to be his nosy mother and claiming she was on the way to his house. It’s a genius trick, and it saves Ricky’s neck every single time. Ricky is the kind of man who cringes at the mere mention of marriage. He wants to savor his bachelor life to the fullest, unlike his other friends, who got married before they even had the chance to make the most of it. Little did he know,...

It's been 100 years since Walt Disney created The Walt Disney Company, which first produced short silent films like "Alice's Funnies." That film starred Walt Disney himself, in live-action, showing a little girl how he created his cartoons. The strange and anthropomorphic creations came alive on the screen in front of her in that ambitious early short, and after a day of behind-the-scenes magic, she dreamed herself into the cartoon world.
The events of the next century are much too voluminous to write them all down here but needless to say, Walt Disney's company underwent many changes. Original characters like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy helped make the studio an industry titan, and feature films like "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" and "Cinderella" cemented its box office clout. Disney's theme parks literally changed landscapes. And by the time the 100th anniversary of those original cartoons came around,...

Ideally timed to Disney’s centennial, a short film entitled “Once Upon a Studio” assembles 100 years’ worth of animated characters from the company’s vaults for a group photo outside Walt Disney Animation Studios headquarters in Burbank, Calif. That’s the building, shaped like Mickey Mouse’s conical blue hat from “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” where the walls are lined with images from a century’s worth of iconic toons.
Conceived and directed by Trent Correy and Dan Abraham, the project involves a live-action walkthrough of the place where the magic happens — that is, where much of the work on Disney’s animated features is done. But there’s an extra sprinkling of magic here, as cartoon characters leap out of their frames and wander the halls where they were originally drawn or rendered.

If hand-drawn animation ever needed a jump start at Disney, now’s the time. Maybe “Once Upon a Studio,” the hybrid short where 2D takes center stage in a multi-character crossover, will provide the first baby step. But even if it’s only a momentary 100th-anniversary legacy booster, it’s a cause for celebration as 543 newly animated characters (mostly hand-drawn) leap out of their photographs in the live-action Roy E. Disney Animation building to roam the halls and gather outside for a group photo.

From The Flintstones and Superman to the Bible and beyond, writer Mark Russell is no stranger to giving unique twists to well-known stories and iconic characters, and over the past several years in Ahoy Comics' Edgar Allan Poe’s Snifter of… anthologies, readers have been treated to Russell's epic, tragic, and altogether gothic take on the monstrous mascots of cereals from a bygone era of Saturday morning cartoons and bottomless bowls of sugar-sweet bliss that were all part of a balanced breakfast.
Brought to ghoulishly gorgeous life on the paneled page by artist Peter Snejbjerg, Russell's breakfast-centric stories are collected for essential consumption in Ahoy Comics' new volume Cereal, which includes three never-before-published chapters that bring this bittersweet saga to a chillingly tragic conclusion. The tone of the second Republican primary debate can best be summed up with a slip of the tongue from Vivek Ramaswamy: “Thank you for speaking while I’m interrupting.”
Over two chaotic, loud, and often unintelligible hours, seven candidates appeared onstage for a second round of jabs between presidential hopefuls — who at this point are all still fighting for second place. Fox News once again hosted the debate, tapping Stuart Varney, Dana Perino, and Univision’s Ilia Calderón as moderators. The trio struggled to maintain any semblance of control over the proceedings.

Autograph hounds are ghouls. They've taken what should be an innocent, good-natured interaction between a celebrity and a fan, and turned it into a cynical, bottom-feeding industry that largely services people with a good deal of disposable income which, given modern-day income disparity, makes you at the very least rich-adjacent. Alas, they've been around forever. Donald Duck portrayed one in a 1939 Disney cartoon, but, in this case, he's just a movie-mad waterfowl eager to fill his personal autograph book with his favorite entertainers' signatures. There's no insinuation that he's trying to profit from his hobby (though he is trespassing on private property to sate his fame-addled desire).
I don't think the concept of an autograph book even exists now. For decades, Hollywood premieres have been overrun with memorabilia merchants loaded with photos, posters, and other collectable items that can be put up for auction on eBay (the brick-and-mortar outlets have...

When walking out of James Gunn's 2014 film "Guardians of the Galaxy," the 10th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this author heard several other audiences members talking about the film's post-credits stinger. In the epilogue, the vaguely villainous Collector (Benicio Del Toro) sat destitute among the ruins of his collection or rare cosmic antiquities. Only a few of his beloved baubles has survived a cosmic blast, including a dog from Earth. The dog, wearing a Soviet space suit, was clearly salvaged from the 1960s Russian space program wherein canines were sent up in rockets to test their safety. The dog in "Guardians" is not Laika, but a fictional dog named Cosmo. The Collector had been keeping it in a cage on a distant planet for decades.
As Cosmo gives the Collector a sympathetic lick, a voice from off-screen (Seth Green) immediately points out how gross the dog is. A...

Chinese giant in apparent step-back from leisure and tourism drive.
Chinese media and property goliath Dalian Wanda Group has struck a $9.3bn deal to sell a portion of its leisure and tourism projects to real-estate developer Sunac China.
The deal includes three Chinese theme parks owned by Wanda, which were intended to compete with Disney’s similar ventures in China (including Shanghai Disneyland, which opened in summer 2016 and has since welcomed more than 10 million guests).
Last year, Wanda owner Wang Jianlin claimed that his “wolf pack” of theme parks would better Disney’s efforts.
In total, Wanda is selling 91% of 13 tourism projects to Sunac, which will take over the project’s loans and financing, while Wanda will continue to design, build and manage the resorts under its own brand name.
According to Reuters, the sale is the second-biggest real estate deal ever in China, and will help Wanda’s efforts to reduce its debt. The deal is...

For folks like me, DuckTales played a big part in your childhood. Between the comedy and mix of high adventure, it helped to scratch a very specific itch on TV shows that not a lot of animated series did back then. However, as great as iconic I found the series to be, perhaps what it’s best known for is its catchy opening theme. As someone who watched the show, catching that opening them was an integral part of the actual experience of watching the show (very much how the opening of an anime is an integral part of the show itself).
If for some reason, you don’t remember that opening (or if you've never seen it), take a look:
For as long as we’ve known that Disney Xd would be reviving DuckTales for a modern audience, we’ve been wondering how they’d handle the opening theme.

In case you weren't getting enough Duck-News, more characters have just been revealed for the exciting Ducktales reboot.
Earlier this week. Entertainment Weekly announced a great deal of supporting characters that will be in the series. First off, we have Gyro Gearloose. This is the crazy inventor who created Gizmoduck (Lin Manuel Miranda) and he will be voiced by Community's Jim Rash. From the looks of it, he almost looks more like a hipster inventor than a crazy inventor.
Next, we have the 2nd richest duck of Duckberg, Scrooge's rival, Flintheart Glomgold, who will be played by Keith Ferguson. The Beagle Boys will be returning with Ma Beagle. All the Beagle Boys will be voiced by Eric Bauza, while Ma Beagle will be played by Margo Martindale. Allison Janney will also be joining the series as Scrooge's old love interest Goldie O'Gilt. Welcome to another installment of Movies to Show My Son. This is the blog series were I discuss movies I can’t wait to show my son in the future. I’ll be covering my own personal experience with the movie, movie and life lessons I hope he will learn, and lastly my concerns about showing said film. This week’s film is Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
My Memory:
What surprised me about my memories of Who Framed Roger Rabbit is how I do not have many of them. As someone who was born in 1984 I was the right age for It, but for whatever reason, it was not one of those showcase films I watched as a child. Part of me thinks it was because my parents did not allow me to watch it, and after rewatching it recently I could understand why.
There are some moments that do stick out.

Ever since Donald Trump walked into the spotlight declaring himself to be candidate for President of the United states and eventually winning that seat, we’ve been all over the guy, and rightfully so. Not only do we grill his policies, pathetic and childish behavior, relationship to his wife, collusion with Russians, and 7000 other things that all seem to happen each day, his appearance is always great fodder as well. Fans have been looking forward to the upcoming DuckTales for months now. As a series that shaped many a childhood in the early ‘90s, it was always bound to face a little bit of pressure. Plus, given the aesthetic makeover it was getting, there was no telling how receptive older audiences would be, or if it would be unique enough to appeal to its main target demographic (kids). But they seemed to be making all the right steps. They’ve put the focus on high adventure, the relationships between Scrooge and the kids, and all that comes with it.
Additionally, Disney Xd made sure to lock down a good cast that consisted of David Tennant, Ben Schwartz, Bobby Moynihan, and Kate Micucci. This latest casting news comes as a bit of a surprise. Fans of the original will remember the character Fenton Crackshell, an accountant who moonlit as the superhero Gizmoduck.

What you might not know is the story about how those ducks were following Donald in a such a perfect manner for basically the entire tour. How do we earn new fans of comic books? Not comics characters, mind you. Long before he could recognize them immediately on a page, my son learned about the Avengers via movies, Batman via cartoon shows, and Spider-Man via his pajamas. As he and my younger son grow up, they will no doubt be immersed in comics culture. It helps when daddy is chained to his desktop computer and/or iPad Pro every day making his own comics, but I can easily imagine how their generation — with more content in more available mediums that I would have in my own childhood (which in itself was fairly diverse all things considered) — could lose comics in the shuffle so easily.

Lucio Fulci is known to most horror fans for his work in the fantastical, through his late career success with Zombie (1979), City of The Living Dead (1980), and The Beyond (1981). Certainly these are his most widely seen and cherished films, and for good reason – they blast through the screen in a feast of color, magic, and grue; short on logic, sure, but long on imagination and dread. But before he untethered his heart in a quest for purity, he engaged in his homeland’s horror sub-genre of giallo, including Don’t Torture a Duckling (1972), incredible, subversive proof that he could create something just as effective and decidedly much more earth bound.
Released late September back home in his native Italy, Duckling never received its due (or much attention at all, truthfully) on these shores until Fulci’s death in 1996 offered a re-evaluation of his body of work. Thanks to the internet,...

I’m pretty sure I haven’t been more excited about a new cartoon series since I was a child than I am about Ducktales coming to Disney Xd. The theme song along makes me excited. If there’s one thing that Disney Xd is doing right, it’s non stop promotion for the revival of one of our favorite children’s cartoons. The most recent trailer makes things even more interesting. Disney is really sinking a lot into ensuring kids, parents, uncles and aunts know there is a new DuckTales on the way. I'm not complaining because I'm probably going to be watching it with my little niece here when it premieres this summer! A new trailer for the series has brought an unexpected character into the fray, Donald Duck! We never saw too much of Donald in the original series so it will certainly be interesting to see how he fits into the new series. I'm also a fan of the updated look and outfit, what about you?
Also have we ever established who Huey, Dewey, and Louie's parents are? Knowing Disney they're likely dead.

Living in today’s pop culture-saturated world is a double-edged sword. On the plus side, there’s pretty much a guarantee that everyone will find something that clicks with them. The downside, of course, is that studios often need to resort to resurrecting dead or dormant franchises in hopes of pressing that nostalgia button for audiences. Oftentimes, audiences are jaded and annoyed by such moves, but every so often, you get a circumstance where they actually welcome this with open arms. This seems to be the case for DuckTales.
If you didn’t have the privilege of growing up the original series, I’ll give you a quick rundown. It was an animated show that ran on Disney channel in the early ‘90s that followed Scrooge McDuck and his great nephews in their globetrotting adventures. The series was a great mix of comedy, commentary, and high adventure in the vein of Indiana Jones.
