Before the 2024 Oscars ceremony took place, three of the four eventual acting winners had already filmed TV performances that now put them in contention for the upcoming Emmys. If Emma Stone, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, and Robert Downey Jr. all end up achieving TV academy recognition this year, they will set a record as the first set of three concurrent acting Oscar recipients to appear on the same year’s Emmy ballot.
Randolph, who scored an Oscar in March for her supporting turn in “The Holdovers,” is seeking her first career Emmy notice for reprising her comedic guest role of Detective Donna Williams during the third season of Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building.” According to Gold Derby’s odds, she comfortably ranks as her show’s strongest guest acting candidate, even outpacing first season nominee Jane Lynch.

Even at its inception in 2014, Peter Morgan’s “The Crown” was designed to be one of the most ambitious television projects of all time — and by the time it concluded last year, his vision for the show had proven to be monumental. Created for Netflix, and premiering in 2016, Morgan’s series depicted the life of Queen Elizabeth II from right before she became the monarch through the year 2005, when then-Prince Charles married the love of his life, Camilla Parker Bowles.
Its scope, in other words, was massive. The cast of “The Crown” rotated every two seasons, with Claire Foy, Olivia Colman and Imelda Staunton successively performing in the lead role, as the Queen faced a changing, roiled world — and a shrunken British empire. In more domestic matters, Elizabeth also had her own family both to love and contend with.

One year after “Everything Everywhere All at Once” became the third film to ever merit three acting Oscars, the recipients of those trophies all have their sights set on Emmy glory. As candidates in three separate 2024 races, Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Ke Huy Quan are headed for an exciting reunion that could very well lead to one or more of them winning the TV academy’s favor in September.
Curtis, whose Oscar victory caught more predictors by surprise than those of her two cast mates, is now the strongest Emmy contender of the three according to our racetrack odds. Indeed, her guest stint as alcoholic mother Donna Berzatto on the FX comedy series “The Bear” is widely expected to bring her her first Emmy win, even in the face of formidable opponents from the same show (like Olivia Colman and Sarah Paulson) and returning champion Maya Rudolph (“Saturday Night Live...

The full ensemble cast is announced for the remake of 1989’s The War Of The Roses which will star Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch.
It’s been just over a month since we learned that Jay Roach would be remaking the 1989 relationship comedy, War Of The Roses and we now have a fuller idea of what the film’s cast looks like.
We already knew that the new adaptation would be starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman as the central couple, who just like Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner in the 1989 original, proceed with a nasty yet entertaining divorce.
A fresh report (via Deadline) has now confirmed that the film’s cast will be rounded out by Kate McKinnon, Andy Samberg and Doctor Who's Ncuti Gatwa.
McKinnon and Samberg are both established comedy stars who’ve led films themselves, so grabbing them both in supporting roles is a real coup.

It comes as no surprise that many classic TV shows and movies are making a comeback these days. While many people are still on the fence about remakes and revivals, as they tend to be worse than the originals, there are some gems that become fan favorites in no time. The second installment of The Night Manager could be another addition to that list.
Back in 2016, the show blew everyone away with its sharp writing and fast pacing. However, the 6-episode effort ended after one season and wasn't picked up to return. That was until the 2024 news of a comeback with another two seasons. And the second season already seems to be as great as anything we have seen before.

The trailer for Yorgos Lanthimos’ new film has arrived. The filmmaker has already followed up his Poor Things run with Kinds of Kindness, which reunites him with the Academy Award-winning star of his last film, Emma Stone, as well as her Poor Things co-star, Willem Dafoe. The new trailer from Searchlight Pictures displays the chaotic nature of the film, with all the clips feeling non-sequitur. And with Sweet Dreams providing the soundtrack for the trailer, it certainly hammers home the dream-like feeling of this abstract movie.

The final episode also featured the Queen’s younger versions, portrayed by Claire Foy and Olivia Colman, in a short, yet defining sequence that later on turned into a concluding moment for the whole series.
Although both actresses’ comebacks to the show were a one-time option, their astounding performances received a raving reaction from both critics and fans, yet only one of them now has a chance to get a prestigious TV award.

“The Crown” can only play a pair of Queens at the Emmys.
Emmy winner Olivia Colman, who portrayed Queen Elizabeth in the series finale episode of Netflix’s monarchy drama, is not eligible to submit in the guest drama actress race by only a few seconds. However, her co-star Claire Foy, who also portrays Her Majesty in her younger years and appears in the same episode, is eligible and will be the sole guest submission for the series, angling for her second win in the category.
The “Sleep, Dearie Sleep,” written by Peter Morgan and directed by Stephen Daldry, clocks in at a robust 72 minutes, the longest of any episode across its six seasons. In the series’ final moments, Imelda Staunton’s Elizabeth looks back on the highs and lows of her reign as she grapples with the idea of handing the crown to Charles. Her younger self appears to...

Bradley Cooper, who has 12 Oscar nominations, might soon add his first Primetime Emmy nod to his resume for playing himself on ABC‘s “Abbott Elementary.” ABC and awards strategists confirm to Variety that the studio has submitted the actor for guest comedy actor consideration for this year’s awards.
Earlier this year, the Television Academy changed the rules for submitting in the guest acting categories, stating, “A brief cameo appearance is not eligible for entry.” However, the vague description doesn’t explicitly state whether an actor like Cooper or even Kevin Hart, who appeared in last week’s episode playing himself over a Facetime call with Jeanine Teagues (Quinta Brunson), would constitute a cameo.
The rules further clarify the definition of a guest performer: “The minimum stand-alone and contiguous screen time for eligibility is 5% of the total running time of the submitted episode.”

The announcement comes with a short clip from the upcoming season. In it, Charlie (Joe Locke) is practising saying I love you to Nick in front of a mirror before being picked up by him. The clip is just about a minute long but...

The (Extra Hot) Cannes Hot List: Nic Cage, Kristen Stewart and Paul Rudd Films to Heat up the Market
The Cannes Film Festival is bracing for what could be its most disruptive edition in decades, with freelance festival employees threatening strike action that could derail the opening night ceremony, and the entire French industry on tenterhooks ahead of an expected new wave of #MeToo allegations against some of the country’s biggest stars, including a few with films in competition this year.
Well, at least the market looks promising. Judging by the number and quality of projects pitching at the 2024 Cannes film market (May 14-22), this could be a banner year for the Marché du Film.

We all love mysteries because they are always intriguing puzzles that force you to use all your wits and deductive reasoning along with the characters to solve gruesome crimes. However, let's be honest, there are an infinite number of movies and TV shows with similar premise, which makes the mystery genre seem rather unremarkable.
However, when the crime story focuses not so much on the crime itself, but on its consequences, human relationships, the psyche of the criminal, the victim and their loved ones, we get a deep psychological drama. Add quality cinematography and a talented cast to the formula and you have a surefire hit.
Such was the case with Broadchurch, starring David Tennant and Olivia Colman. Yes, you can find criticism of the show here and there, but the vast majority of professional critics and audiences remained positive, and now the show boasts an impressive 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

"The Bear" season 3 officially has a release date, and a snazzy first look teaser to go with it. The hit FX and Hulu series that's dominated award season since it premiered in 2022 is back for a third peek into the kitchen of a chaotic Chicago restaurant.
New episodes of the series are set to premiere on Hulu on Thursday, June 27, 2024, close to a year exactly after the show's sophomore season dropped. Despite plenty of fans insisting that the series would be better as a weekly release, the new season is poised to continue its tradition of a single-batch drop, and all 10 episodes will be available that Thursday.
The last season of "The Bear" ended with depressed, highly decorated chef Carmy (Jeremy Allen White), his intrepid sous-chef turned partner Sydney (Ayo Edebiri), hotheaded cousin Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), and the rest of the team behind sandwich joint The Beef poised to successfully open their high-end restaurant.

One of the most noticeable omissions from the 2023 Emmy nominations was “The Crown” star Imelda Staunton, who was generally considered a safe bet since her predecessors in the role of Queen Elizabeth II – Claire Foy and Olivia Colman – had never failed to garner TV academy recognition. As she now seeks redemption in the form of a farewell win (just like Foy and Colman achieved in 2018 and 2021), multiple factors give her a better standing in the race compared to last year.
Based on the Emmy nominations predictions of over 2,000 Gold Derby users, Staunton is currently in second place behind Best Drama Actress frontrunner (and 2020 nominee) Jennifer Aniston (“The Morning Show”). At this time last year, Staunton was in the same spot (behind Melanie Lynskey of “Yellowjackets”), albeit with significantly longer odds (11/2 versus the present 4/1) and less than 7% of the top choice votes, whereas she currently holds 19%.

Upon sweeping the four main drama acting categories at the 2021 Emmy Awards, “The Crown” stars Olivia Colman, Josh O’Connor, Gillian Anderson, and Tobias Menzies all joined a special roster of lead or supporting TV academy honorees who were not part of their shows’ original casts. As members of the expansive Netflix series’ second of three distinct ensembles, this quartet and their co-stars were replaced ahead of season five by a new group of actors, some of whom could be added to said exclusive winners club later this year.

The Bear is one of those rare stories that comes along once in a blue moon. It doesn't get by on flashy CG, explosions, or modded-out race cars flying down the streets.
Witty dialogue, high stress, and intense drama fuel this machine, and perhaps that's why so many big-name actors are attracted to its frenzied undercurrents.
Kudos to the creative team assembled under the banner of The Bear. They've created a fantastic ride, thrumming with intensity and entertainment without needing to spend a fortune.
They're clearly doing something right. Series creator Christopher Storer (bolstered by incredible writers like Joanna Calo) nails the pace and character beats while accomplishing a rare feat within the industry, perfecting the art of the cameo appearance.
Cameos are often tricky for several reasons. They tend to disrupt the immersive nature of the story. As a prime example, everyone is still trying to forget Ed Sheeran...
