The bell-ringing, hateful-faced Don Hector Salamanca had no shortage of enemies in Breaking Bad and its prequel Better Call Saul, but cast members and creatives from both series are remembering actor Mark Margolis fondly today. The stage and screen veteran died Thursday at 83, and tributes are all over social media from the likes of Bryan Cranston, Bob Odenkirk, Peter Gould, Michael Mando and others.
“I am very saddened today to learn of a friend’s passing,” multiple Emmy-winning Breaking Bad star Cranston wrote on Instagram. “Mark Margolis was a really good actor and a lovely human being. Fun and engaging off the set (and in the case of Breaking Bad and Your Honor), intimidating and frightening on set. His quiet nature belied his mischievous nature and curious mind…and he loved sharing a good joke. I miss him already. Rest now, Mark and thank you for your friendship and your exceptional body of work.

Bryan Cranston, Darren Aronofsky, Dean Norris and Better Call Saul showrunner Peter Gould are among those remembering their late colleague, actor Mark Margolis, who died Thursday at the age of 83 after a short illness.
Margolis was a journeyman actor who delivered a memorable performance as the bell-ringing drug runner Hector Salamanca on Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. His role in the former, particularly his shocking death in the season four finale “Face Off” in 2011, earned him an Emmy nomination for guest actor in a drama series.
Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston remembered his late colleague on Instagram Friday, writing he was “very saddened” to learn of the death of his friend, whom he called both “a really good actor and a lovely human being.”

"Better Call Saul" has ended its sixth and final season, and with it comes what seems like the end of the "Breaking Bad" universe. The prequel/sequel series stood on its own from "Breaking Bad," creating a compelling and tragic story that showed us the transformation of Bob Odenkirk's Jimmy McGill into Saul Goodman. The final season of the critically acclaimed series brought Jimmy's story to an end, with the black & white flash-forwards giving audiences what feels like a definitive ending to this shared universe of two television shows and one feature film.
Throughout both "Breaking Bad" and "Better Call Saul," various flashbacks were used to flesh out the respective characters in each series. Now that the massive story that started with "Breaking Bad" is seemingly at its end with no further spin-offs confirmed, now is as good of a time as any to look back on the timeline of the "Breaking Bad" universe.

From the very first episode of "Better Call Saul," viewers were primed to notice points of connection between the prequel and its parent series. If Bob Odenkirk's Jimmy McGill so much as winked a certain way, "Breaking Bad" fans were eager to analyze it. Is this the moment? Is he becoming Saul Goodman in front of our eyes? When a scene of transformation finally did come, it was much later than anyone expected, but series creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould made sure to sprinkle in plenty of "Breaking Bad" connections in the meantime.
The series also doled out its cameos slowly and surely, including crossover characters only when it made sense for Jimmy's story and the parallel origin stories of Gus (Giancarlo Esposito) and Mike (Jonathan Banks). So when Walter White's brother-in-law Hank Schrader (Dean Norris) and his partner Steven Gomez (Steven Michael Quezada) appeared in the third...

This article contains spoilers for Better Call Saul season 6 episode 12.
The first time a character on Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul kills someone intentionally on-screen, it’s always a tipping point in the series. Walter White (Bryan Cranston) spent an entire episode mulling his first murder, complete with composing a pros and cons list, to ultimately settle on killing Krazy-8 (Max Arciniega) with a bike lock. Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) stands distraught in front of Gale Boetticher’s (David Costabile) door before he pulls the trigger on Gus Fring’s (Giancarlo Esposito) main meth cook.
Jimmy McGill a.k.a. Saul Goodman a.k.a. Gene Takovic (Bob Odenkirk) has never become violent in this manner. However, there is a point in the show’s penultimate episode, “Waterworks,” in which it felt like this moment of truth was tantalizingly palpable. When Gene arrives to ask Marion (Carol Burnett) to...

One of the joys in watching Better Call Saul has been getting to see a myriad of favorite characters from the Breaking Bad universe in a new light. We got to see how Hector Salamanca (Mark Margolis) lost his ability to use his motor functions. There are great scenes in which Domingo becomes Krazy 8 (Max Arciniega), the first antagonist in the parent show. Perhaps the best connective tissue between the two programs was giving Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks) a backstory.
All of these nods to the past lives of Albuquerque’s underbelly have been well-timed and perfectly executed. It allowed us to glean a clearer picture of the cartel world while not distracting from the main plot. That’s why some fans were equal parts concerned and excited when Walter White and Jesse Pinkman’s (Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul) cameos were announced before the start of the final season.

Tim Blake Nelson in the Western Old Henry. Courtesy of Shout! Studios and Hideout Pictures.
The classic Western rides again, with Tim Blake Nelson playing a quiet widowed farmer with teen-aged son on a hardscrabble Oklahoma farm, who takes in a wounded man found with a bag full of money and soon finds trouble follows. Writer/director Potsy Ponciroli’s low-budget indie Western action film Old Henry sports a much better than expected cast, and is elevated greatly by Tim Blake Nelson in a rare lead role.
Old Henry evokes classic Westerns, with its tale of an aging widowed farmer with a teen-aged son, defending his homestead when a group of armed men come looking for the wounded stranger they took in, and the bag of loot he had with him. Both the stranger and the men who have come looking for him claim to be lawmen, leaving the farmer to decide who to believe.

Henry’s (Tim Blake Nelson) been living and farming his Oklahoma land for almost two decades, if not more—the last ten as a single father to the now-teenage Wyatt (Gavin Lewis). Despite having help from his brother-in-law down the way (Trace Adkins’ Al), this life isn’t an easy one and the kid is desperate to escape it as much because of the work as the stone wall his dad has become. Wyatt feels he’s still being treated like a child when he knows he deserves more; Henry won’t let him hold a gun, let alone learn to shoot one. Tensions rise, Henry’s refusal to bend grows, and you can sense Wyatt is readying to leave the first chance he gets. Then everything changes.

“Breaking Bad” scored seven nominations in Best Drama Supporting Actor during its run, but sadly none of them were for Dean Norris. He may finally get recognized for his portrayal of Hank Schrader this year in another category and via a similar path of that of another star in the “Breaking Bad”-verse.
Norris is contending in Best Drama Guest Actor after reprising Hank in two episodes of “Better Call Saul” this season — the first time we’ve seen Hank back in the flesh since his gut-wrenching death after that iconic line — “My name is Asac Schrader, and you can go f— yourself” in the iconic “Breaking Bad” episode “Ozymandias.” If he makes it in, it would not be unlike Michael McKean, who was snubbed in supporting in 2017 for the third and his final season of “Better Call Saul,” in which Chuck dies, but bagged a guest bid last year...

The following contains spoilers for Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad, and El Camino.
The nice thing about Vince Gilligan’s Albuquerque universe in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul is how neat and orderly it all is. Gilligan and his Bad and Saul writers (including Saul showrunner Peter Gould) take an engineer’s approach to crafting their series. When characters are presented with problems, the show makes sure they go about solving them in as realistic and detailed a way as possible.
That appreciation for realism and detail carries over into Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul’s approach to time. There are very few “circa” dates” or “I don’t know, around Christmas, 2004?” dates on either show’s calendar. Breaking Bad established a starting date in its very first episode and then the writers take great care to make sure that everything that happens after (or before) sticks to a realistic timeline.

Gustavio Fring is a popular character on AMC’s on the crime drama “Breaking Bad” and its prequel “Better Call Saul”. Giancarlo Espisito plays the character of Gus Fring perfectly, creating a likable yet amazingly sinister villain. Gus is from Chile and emigrated to Mexico in the 1980s. That is about all we know about his past. He finds his way to Albuquerque, New Mexico where he builds a business empire. Gus and his partner Max Arciniega start a successful fast food chain, Los Pollos Hermanos as well as an industrial laundry facility, Lavandria Brilliante. Of course, these businesses are a

Based on a clip from Tuesday’s Ellen, it seems like there’s a good chance Jesse Pinkman will show his face in the third season of Bad‘s prequel, Better Call Saul.
“God, I hope so,” Bad star Aaron Paul responds when host Ellen DeGeneres asks him whether the feckless drug dealer will ever show up on the spinoff. “Maybe I already shot it. We just — or they just — wrapped the [latest] season.”

Veteran character actor Scott Glenn relishes the opportunity to sink his teeth into a rare lead role in this tawdry, if stylishly shot, serial-killer flick. Looking grizzled and emaciated, Glenn is compelling as small-town barber Gene Van Wingerdt, a buttoned-down blend of Billy Bob Thornton's saturnine snipper in The Man Who Wasn't There and Michael Douglas's simmering white-collar workhorse in Falling Down. Like countless other movie psychos, Gene marries a strict puritanical bent — he doesn't like it when his young Hispanic employee Luis (Max Arciniega) curses, for example — with an extremely dark past. Two decades prior, he was arrested for murdering several women, but released due to insufficient evidence. The outcome drove the c...

Was our last Breaking Bad Easter egg not heavy-handed enough for you? How about this one, noticed by Jhoff57 at Reddit?Walt's breakdown after witnessing Hank's death looked mighty similar to the flashback in which Gus witnesses the death of his "hermano" (as in, "Los Pollos Hermanos") Max Arciniega at the hands of Tio Salamanca. Is this foreshadowing that Walt will seek revenge just as Gus did? Perhaps. Also reminiscent? The text and imagery from the episode's namesake, "Ozymandias." Mark Margolis started out his career on the stage performing hundreds of plays and has since contributed to over 40 television series and 70 plus features including Scarface, The Cotton Club, Gone Baby Gone, and every one of Darren Arnofsky’s films.
On Breaking Bad, Margolis played Hector “Tio” Salamanca, the former right-hand-man of the Juarez Cartel, who after suffering a stroke, was unable to speak or walk; left only to communicate with a brass service bell fixed to his wheelchair amd his face. Finally we get to see some action on the other side, something that’s been a little lacking this season. ‘Our’ Lincoln (Seth Gabel) goes to the other side to help Fauxlivia (Anna Torv) and Alt Lincoln track down a vigilante killer. As we whittle our way down to the last episodes of the season (and maybe the series), there’s going to be plenty of spoiler material. There’s a major development this week and I’m not going to write around it, so only read on if you’ve seen the episode.
Unlike the titular Radiohead song suggests, we begin with everything very much in its wrong place. Lincoln, who began the season as a new recruit to Fringe Division, developed an unspoken attraction for Olivia. Whether she felt the same way we will never know for sure, although the signs were certainly suggestive.

Haywire (2011) Film Review, a movie directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring Gina Carano, Ewan McGregor, Channing Tatum, Michael Fassbender, Bill Paxton, Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas, Michael Angarano, Matthieu Kassovitz, Natascha Berg, Aaron Cohen, Maximino Arciniega, Tim Connolly, Anthony Brandon Wong, and Eddie J. Fernandez.
Haywire is an action film on a diet. The dietary aspect of the film, much like late 80’s and early 90’s action films, is one of expected and delivered simplicity. This is not necessarily a bad thing as some found the complexity of Brian De Palma’s Mission: Impossible detrimental. Unlike plot-heavy Salt and style-infused Hanna, Haywire can be summed up as: Guy grows jealous of girl, guy tries to kill girl, girl goes after guy.
There is a brutal, complicated swiftness to the first fight scene of Haywire that is never duplicated again in the film, not even in a later hotel room battle. What...

Haywire First 5-Minutes, Gina Carano Opening Fight Scene. Steven Soderbergh‘s Haywire (2011) first five minutes stars Gina Carano and Channing Tatum. The Haywire opening fight scene starts out one way then quickly turns towards the other but not because of what the viewer initially thinks. The scene has no cheesy fight music thus only the ambient sounds of the fight and the diner exist. I read a few people comment on Gina Carano’s acting on other sites but they seem to have forgotten two thing: 1.) She has never studied acting in her life, 2.) This is her first movie.

Here’s your first official look at Gina Carano, the star of Steven Soderbergh’s spy-actioner “Haywire” (formerly “Knockout”), packing an Uzi and making a mean face as she sprays, one presumes, some bad dudes who had it coming. The plot has Carano playing Mallory Kane, a black ops spy who is double crossed and left for dead, forcing the gal to use all of her deadly skills to exact revenge on the men responsible.
