While Robert Downey Jr.’s journey as the sardonic industrialist-turned-superhero may have come to a lamentable end, not all hope is lost. At least not for the astute London-based detective renowned for his logical prowess and brilliant skills.

That’s right, Downey Jr. may very well make a comeback as the world-famous detective, and his wife, Susan Downey Jr. most certainly has her fingers crossed for it.
Will Robert Downey Jr. Return As the Ingenious Detective?
Much like Iron Man – a character that continues to live in fans’ hearts to this very date – Arthur Conan Doyle’s eminent creation of Sherlock Holmes is inarguably one of a kind. And when someone as gifted as Robert Downey Jr. takes on the character, well, that’s one surefire way to leave an indelible mark on the audience.

While Robert Downey Jr. is known for his portrayal of Iron Man in the MCU, he also portrayed Sherlock Holmes in Guy Ritchie’s adaptation of the popular novels by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The actor reprised his role in the 2011 sequel Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and was also set to appear in a threequel.
Amazon Prime Video announced recently that a series based on Andy Lane’s Young Sherlock Holmes novels would be in development with Guy Ritchie directing. This follows a trend of prequels and spinoffs of popular characters where the story follows a younger version such as Dexter, Young Sheldon, Ted, and more.

In the world of blockbuster entertainment and critical success, no one rivals the mastery of Steven Spielberg. Notwithstanding the technical ingenuity of James Cameron and the interstellar scientific imagination of George Lucas, Spielberg stands – to this day – as the only Hollywood director to spread out his wings across (almost) every genre and master it without leaving any room for doubts.

From Whitney Houston to Elvis, there is no shortage of iconic singers who inspire sweeping films that dramatize their life stories. No matter the genre, cinematic features have captured the careers of the King of Rock and Roll Elvis Presley to country singer Jonny Cash. Most recently, Back to Black (2024) launched in theaters to capture the life and musical career of Amy Winehouse.
Still other films in the works will add to the canon of singer biography movies, like Timothée Chalamet’s upcoming portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown and nephew to Jaafar Jackson’s portrayal of his uncle the late Michael Jackson in Michael.
We’ve compiled a list of music-centric biopics available to stream should the urge overcome viewers.

Robert Downey Jr. may have recently won his first Oscar for Oppenheimer, but he’s not looking to run from his Marvel past.
In fact, the actor says he’d “happily” return as Tony Stark/Iron Man.
“It’s too integral a part of my DNA,” Downey told Esquire in a new interview. “That role chose me. And look, I always say, never, ever bet against Kevin Feige. It is a losing bet. He’s the house. He will always win.”
Downey’s Iron Man met his fate in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame in what was arguably the most emotionally devastating moment in the 33-film Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Marvel Comics also always played fast and loose with character deaths, regularly killing off heroes and villains for effect, only to quickly bring them back, Marvel Studios boss Feige has previously said he’s rather protective of the moment Iron Man sacrificed himself to defeat Thanos.

Rege-Jean Page is to play Simon Templar, as Doug Liman is the latest to get his hands on The Saint. So to speak.
After enjoying significant success on the small screen – hello Roger Moore! – the TV series The Saint made the jump to blockbuster cinema in the back end of the 1990s. That was when Val Kilmer took on the role of Simon Templar, the career choice given at the time for him exiting what became Batman & Robin.
Phillip Noyce directed The Saint, but plans for a big screen franchise were muted by the less than stellar box office receipts, and the lack of a bunch of people at Paramount Pictures clamouring for a sequel.

Doug Liman is set to direct and oversee development on Paramount Pictures’ reboot of The Saint.
Regé-Jean Page, a breakout actor from Netflix’s Bridgerton, was earlier tapped to star in and executive produce the studio’s imagining of the movie based on the early 20th century adventure novels by Leslie Charteris that featured a mysterious man named Simon Templar taking down various bad guys.
Val Kilmer starred in Paramount’s 1997 original film The Saint as a master of disguise. The character has proven quite popular, appearing in comics, serials and, of course, movies and television. Roger Moore famously starred in the 1960s British TV series of the same name.

For the second year in a row, a film starring Cate Blanchett has taken the lead prize at Poland’s EnergaCamerimage Festival, celebrating the work of the world’s best cinematographers. This year, the Aboriginal drama “The New Boy” won the Golden Frog for its cinematographer Warwick Thornton, who also happens to be the picture’s director.

The New Boy — the story of a young Aboriginal Australian orphan boy that was written, directed and lensed by Warwick Thornton — collected the Golden Frog in the main competition of the 31st EnergaCamerimage international cinematography film festival, which closed Saturday night in Torún, Poland.
Cinematographer Ed Lachman received the Silver Frog for Pablo Larraín’s El Conde, which positions Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet as a vampire. Robbie Ryan’s lensing of Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things, the story of a young woman (Emma Stone) brought back to life by an unorthodox scientist, claimed the Bronze Frog as well as the Audience Award. (Ryan collected the Golden Frog two years ago, for Mike Mills’ C’mon C’mon, and Lachman won the Golden Frog in 2015, for Todd Haynes’ Carol.).

Exclusive: While it will continue to have a deal with Skydance Media for tent pole live action film and TV fare, Apple is parting ways with Skydance Animation, the company run by former Pixar chief John Lassiter. Their multi-year deal has come to a conclusion, and Apple is making other kinds of films, notably this weekend’s opener Killers of the Flower Moon, which opens globally Friday.
Skydance Animation will land in a new deal quickly, and Apple will give back to the company the project Spellbound, which had been set at Apple TV+ but will not move forward.
Skydance and Apple will remain partnered on a number of upcoming feature film and TV series, but mutually agreed the animated feature was not the best fit for Apple Original Films’ expanding narrative film slate. Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall erupted into a flurry of cheers this afternoon as filmmaker Martin Scorsese strolled on stage to take part in a career Q&a at the London Film Festival.
The keynote session, hosted by Baby Driver filmmaker Edgar Wright, was the hottest ticket here this week in London. With a completely sold-out crowd of devoted film fans and UK-based filmmakers like Dexter Fletcher and Asif Kapadia, the session unraveled almost like a university lecture, with Scorsese speaking for lengthy periods about his films, career, and the effect both have had on his life.
“I’ve always considered myself a teacher more than a filmmaker,” Scorsese began when quizzed on his voracious appetite for world cinema and why he likes to remain in dialogue with other people about the films he loves.

Chris Evans knows that critics hated “Ghosted,” his Apple original movie co-starring Ana de Armas. The film, directed by Dexter Fletcher, opened in April to abysmal reviews. It currently boasts a 26% Rotten Tomatoes score, and Variety called it “over-the-top and convoluted.” In a new interview with GQ magazine, Evans admitted the film could’ve been better.
“‘Ghosted’ to me felt like a movie that I grew up on, a movie that maybe we don’t see very much anymore,” Evans said. “And the question is whether or not audiences have outgrown those types of films.”
GQ then asked: “Is that a question you had going into it or coming out of it?”
“Both,” Evans answered. “I didn’t think audiences had outgrown it prior, and I still don’t think they have, despite the fact, I mean, technically I think we did okay on, in terms of viewership. Critics didn’t like it.

Love at First Sight is a rom-com film about fate and love at first sight. Directed by Vanessa Caswill from a screenplay by Katie Lovejoy the film is based on a 2011 novel titled The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith. Love at First Sight follows the story of Hadley (Hailey Lu Richardson) and Oliver (Ben Hardy) as they meet for the first time at an airport and fall in love during a flight from America to London.
While the Netflix film adds nothing new to the rom-com genre it does provide you with enough entertainment that it is worthy of your time. Any rom-com needs its lead pairing to work perfectly and I think Richardson and Hardy have great chemistry in the film which makes Love at First Sight all the more enjoyable.

Ever since Robert Downey Jr.'s Sherlock Holmes typed that question mark after the words "The End" in 2011's "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows," we've all been expecting him to return for another round of sleuthing. In the years following that sequel's half a billion dollar success at the box office, we kept hearing about plans for a follow-up that never actually materialized.
In 2018, Dr. John Watson actor Jude Law revealed that the "Sherlock Holmes 3" plot was supposed to "propel the story forward," and "play up the fact that [Holmes and Watson] haven't seen each other for a long time." That made sense, since the second movie released all the way back in 2011, so there would need to be some acknowledgement of time passing between stories. But since then, even more time has passed, bringing only more delays.

The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight author Jennifer E. Smith has nothing but praise for Love at First Sight, the 2023 Netflix adaptation of her 2011 bestselling novel. The new trailer introduces the two strangers whose meet-cute occurs in an airport. Haley Lu Richardson (White Lotus) and Ben Hardy (Bohemian Rhapsody) star as the couple who experience a much more enjoyable flight than most travelers.
Author Smith told Netflix’s Tudum that she’s thrilled with Richardson and Hardy as the leads. “They are such a great Hadley and Oliver. They’re so charming and winning, and they have great chemistry. They just did right by the characters,” said Smith.
Katie Lovejoy adapted Smith’s book and Vanessa Caswill directed. Discussing the author, Caswill noted, “Jennifer was so trusting and generous and not precious in the slightest. […]She wrote me the sweetest email after she finally watched the film. It was so lovely,...

In October 2017, Bryan Singer appeared energetic and in control as he welcomed Olympic diver Greg Louganis and Queen guitarist Brian May on the London set of “Bohemian Rhapsody.” But behind the scenes, chaos reigned. The onetime Hollywood wunderkind’s career was about to unravel, as Fox executives were growing weary of Singer’s pro- longed absences and erratic behavior. On Dec. 4, Fox pulled the trigger and fired Singer, replacing him with Dexter Fletcher. As Louganis and May smiled for photos with the acclaimed director, it marked one of Singer’s last known days on a film set.
Getting fired from “Bohemian Rhapsody” was a public humiliation for a filmmaker who had racked up hit after hit. But a series of personal scandals would dwarf that professional setback. Over the ensuing five and a half years, Singer tried to reenter the fray with an $80 million remake of ’80s action film “Red Sonja” for Millennium Films.

New Delhi, April 29 (Ians) British filmmaker Dexter Fletcher has revealed that Apple asked him to cut a scene in the movie ‘Ghosted’ because their “data said people would turn it off”.
The Apple TV+ crime thriller ‘Ghosted’ stars Hollywood actors Chris Evans and Ana de Armas.
The filmmaker, who had directed the 2019 biographical film ‘Rocketman’, told Deadline that he had initially planned a long and elaborate opening sequence.
Fletcher then took the scene to the Apple team for approval.
“I thought it was great, this three-minute opening scene, and they said you can’t do it because if it goes on and something doesn’t happen in the first 30 seconds, we know the data shows that people will just turn off,” the director was quoted as saying.
“I don’t want that, so I make the compromise,” he added.

British filmmaker Dexter Fletcher is fresh off the release of his Apple TV+ crime caper Ghosted, and during a recent interview, Fletcher highlighted what he described as the “comprises” required when developing a project for a streamer.
“You can’t make a film for streaming the same way you do for theatrical,” Fletcher told Alex Zane’s A Trip to the Movies podcast. “There are different metrics and approaches. There has to be, for the very reason that people can turn off very quickly.”
The Rocketman filmmaker continued to say that he had initially planned a long and elaborate opening sequence for Ghosted that involved Ana De Armas driving a car through a mountain in reference to a scene from the 1978 film Foul Play, starring Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase. Fletcher said he took the scene to Apple, who said they understood what he was attempting to create but raised...

Chris Evans used his friendship with Ana de Armas to recruit her for their movie 'Ghosted' after Scarlett Johansson dropped out.Chris and Ana star in the new Apple TV Plus action movie but director Dexter Fletcher has revealed Scarlett had originally been cast to play the female lead partly because of her longtime friendship with the actor - and when she had scheduling issues, Chris had to bring in another of his female pals.Fletcher told The Hollywood Reporter: "I was lucky enough to get on well with Chris and meet him, and he was like: 'Look, Scarlett is a great friend. I’m just gonna ask Scarlett'. And obviously, I had no objections to that pairing, and for a while there, it seemed really positive and very good ... [Scarlett] was engaged, she was giving great notes on the script and the ideas were flowing during great meetings.

Dexter Fletcher was advised to step in to direct 'Bohemian Rhapsody' so he knew what to avoid on 'Rocketman'.The 57-year-old filmmaker stepped in to helm the last few weeks on the Queen biopic after Bryan Singer was fired and though he had begun pre-production on the Sir Elton John movie, producer Matthew Vaughn could see the benefit of him working on both projects.Dexter - who was only credited as executive producer on 'Bohemian Rhapsody' because of DGA rules - told The Hollywood Reporter: "The truth was that I’d been involved with Bohemian Rhapsody a couple of years earlier when it was at Sony, with a different actor attached. I got a long way through the process, in fact, and I was pretty much in the first week of pre-production when it fell apart. "So I knew that material well, and I knew that Queen knew me,...

Director Dexter Fletcher’s newest film, Ghosted, is a mismatched-couple rom-com simmering in a high-octane espionage potboiler. Cole, played by Chris Evans, is a stay-at-home, man-of-the earth kinda guy; Sadie, played by Ana de Armas, is an international traveler. He’s a little needy. She is a one-woman Independence Day fireworks display. He’s a farmer, who sells his crops at an open market, not convenience stores. She is a CIA assassin, who kills her marks in the open, behind cover, or whatever happens to be most convenient at any moment.
And Adrien Brody plays Leveque, the biggest inconvenience in their relationship.
Apple TV+’s new film is the third collaboration for de Armas and Evans, following Knives Out and Netflix’s The Gray Man. But that’s not what makes Brody the third wheel. His character Leveque has a thing for power and gets his jollies sprinkling fire ants on clumsy underlings.
