Paramount Network announced Monday that Yellowstone has resumed production.
Filming on the Western hit’s final season five episodes has gotten underway in Montana.
While start of production was later than previously thought, MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios still expect the drama to return in November, as previously announced last year.
There was no update on the show’s cast — or whether star Kevin Costner will make an appearance in the final episodes that are expected to wrap the series.
Yellowstone aired it last episode more than a year ago — in January, 2023 — amid Paramount Network deciding to split the season into two parts. Talks of infighting over scheduling and script delays between Costner and showrunner Taylor Sheridan ensued for many months, with Costner also focusing on his upcoming Western epic Horizon: An American Saga. The cast and crew had been planning to resume filming in March 2023 with an announced summer premiere date,...

The trio of new “The Sandman” Season 2 actors will join the Endless siblings returning from Season 1: Death (Kirby), Desire (Mason Alexander Park), Despair (Donna Preston) and Dream, The Sandman himself.

On Monday night, pedestrians walking along New York City’s Park Avenue stopped in their tracks as they noticed unusually well-dressed dogs posing on a red carpet outside Akc’s Museum of the Dog. Staring at the spectacle, they brandished their phones to capture the moment as they wondered aloud what was transpiring.

A remake of Heaven Can Wait is in early development at Paramount with Glen Powell, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Stephen Gaghan, an Oscar winner for his script for Steven Soderbergh’s 2000 crime film Traffic, is writing the project for Powell to star. Based on Harry Segall’s play of the same name, the original 1978 movie Heaven Can Wait starred Warren Beatty and was nominated for nine Oscars including best picture, with the film notching a win for best art direction.

Misa Hylton, the mother of Sean “Diddy” Combs’ second eldest son, Justin, has expressed her support for Casandra “Cassie” Ventura days after a video of the music producer assaulting the singer and his longtime ex-girlfriend was released.
The fashion designer posted two images of Combs’ seven children on Instagram and shared in the caption that she was “heartbroken” over what Ventura must be going through.
“I am heartbroken that Cassie must relive the horror of her abuse, and my heart goes out to her. I know exactly how she feels, and through my empathy, it has triggered my own trauma,” Hylton wrote. “These young people were raised by women that want the best for them — we put God and education first and have always been united in our mutual effort to support their dreams. Two of the youngest do not have their mother here and it has been our duty to support them.

Riley Keough Claims Fraud, Forged Lisa Marie Presley Signature in Graceland Foreclosure Sale Attempt
Actress Riley Keough is taking the fight to save Graceland — the iconic Memphis home of her grandfather Elvis Presley — to court this week after what she claims is a fraudulent attempt to use her late mother’s forged signature to pass the property over to settle a multi-million dollar debt.
Keough, the trustee of the Promenade Trust, filed a lawsuit on May 15 in Shelby County Chancery Court and is now seeking to block an entity named Naussany Investments & Private Lending LLC from taking profits from the sale of Graceland, a longtime Memphis tourism destination and place of pilgrimage for Presley and his fans worldwide. In the complaint, Keough’s attorney suggests that the entity attempting to have Graceland sold off forged Lisa Marie Presley’s signature on the document that allowed the famed property to be held as collateral for a $3.8 million loan.

“[The tour] is something that we’ve been looking forward to ever since our debut,” the group’s leader, Jurin, told The Hollywood Reporter through a translator just days before their first show.
The seven-piece hip-hop and R&b-inspired group — made up of members Jurin, Chisa, Hinata, Harvey, Juria, Maya and Cocona — debuted in 2022 with the single “Tippy Toes,” featuring a bold prediction of their future as belted by Chisa: “Understand that we didn’t come to play, babe. Here to dominate.”

Darren Lemke, who has worked on such family films as Goosebumps starring Jack Black and Shazam!, has been tapped to pen the script set in a fantastical world about the club.
Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy, Dan Levine and Dan Cohen are producing through 21 Laps Entertainment, the prolific banner behind Stranger Things and the recent Holocaust drama All The Light We Cannot See.
The project is said to exude the tone and vibes of Clue and Night at the Museum, Levy’s own fantasy-adventure trilogy set in a museum and featuring exhibits and historical figures to come to life.

Since 1912, the International Olympic Committee has been commissioning an official film to highlight the best of each edition of the Games. This year, the Ioc has enlisted Emmy-winning brothers Jules and Gédéon Naudet to helm the official film of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Naudet brothers, renowned for their Emmy-winning documentary “9/11” and subsequent works such as “Notre-Dame: Our Lady of Paris” and “November 13: Attack on Paris,” are taking a novel approach to documenting the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Instead of a traditional film composed of clips of the Games’ sporting highlights, they are delving into the heart of the event, unveiling the untold story of how a city and a nation unite to host an Olympic Games.
For the Naudets, covering an Olympic Games was an exciting prospect and an opportunity to become known as more than just the “catastrophe brothers,” Jules explained in a recent conversation with Variety.

A24 has nabbed U.S. rights to “The Death of Robin Hood,” one of the hottest packages at this year’s Cannes. The Sherwood Forest-set film stars Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer and is directed by Michael Sarnoski, the filmmaker behind the critically acclaimed “Pig” and this summer’s “A Quiet Place: Day One.”
According to the official logline, the film will find Robin Hood “grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder.” Instead of the merry outlaw seen in certain previous versions of the story, like the one portrayed by Errol Flynn, this Robin Hood is “a battle-worn loner [who] finds himself gravely injured and in the hands of a mysterious woman, who offers him a chance at salvation.” Production on “The Death of Robin Hood” is set to begin in 2025. A24 will release the film theatrically. Negotiations were highly competitive with several potential buyers circling the film.

The first time Donna Langley came to the Cannes Film Festival she was a junior executive working on 1999’s “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.”

Yogi Berra, perhaps the greatest catcher in history, is quoted in Carson Lund’s “Eephus,” a movie about players who, unlike Berra, are never going to trouble the Baseball Hall of Fame’s induction committee. To homage so lofty a legend in so humble a film is a pretty big swing. But one likes to think Berra would be tickled by the shout-out in this lovely little sundowner movie, during which a bunch of middle-aged casual players use the excuse of the last game of their season — and perhaps ever — to valiantly fight the dying of the light. After all, wasn’t he the guy who coined “The future ain’t what it used to be”?
The future sure looks different, suddenly, for the Adler’s Paint and Riverdogs adult-league teams who have played regularly at Soldier’s Field, the public pitch serving their small New England town, for years.

Fred Roos, the casting director turned producer who jump-started the career of Jack Nicholson and collaborated often with Francis Ford Coppola, sharing a best picture Oscar with the filmmaker for The Godfather Part II, has died. He was 89.
Roos died Saturday at his home in Beverly Hills, a publicist announced.
It’s part of Hollywood lore that before Harrison Ford became a famous actor, he was laboring as a carpenter to make ends meet. What some might not know is that it was at Roos’ house where Ford was woodworking when the casting director befriended him, eventually pushing him for roles in George Lucas’ American Graffiti (1973) and Star Wars (1977) and Coppola’s The Conversation (1974).
And it was Roos who convinced Lucas — who had been leaning toward Amy Irving — that Carrie Fisher should portray Princess Leia in Star Wars. (Roos did not have an official role on that film.)

One of the things Sean Baker does exceptionally well is draw us into a vivid and highly specific milieu, nurturing our affections for characters who are rough-edged, to put it mildly, and then whip up a vortex of steadily escalating chaos. The writer-director is like a conductor of raw symphonies about people from the marginalized fringes caught in a dizzying whirl, sometimes of their own making and sometimes not. Sex workers have been a big part of Baker’s gallery of outsiders, which makes Anora a fine addition to his terrific body of work.
As a character, played by Mikey Madison with a sweetness that humanizes even the most transactional situations and a defensiveness that makes her dangerous when threatened, Anora, who goes by Ani, stands alongside the defiantly resilient protagonists of Baker’s last handful of films, from Starlet and Tangerine through The Florida Project and Red Rocket.

Fast rising Saudi studio Telefaz11 – the label behind record-breaking wrestling comedy “Sattar” – is set to make an ambitious concept comedy titled “Alzarfa” that will combine the heist movie and film-within-a-film genres.
“Alzarfa” is being lead produced by Telfaz11 studio founder and creative director Ibraheem Alkhairallah, a comedian, actor, writer and producer who wrote and starred in “Sattar” (pictured) the tale of a man pursuing his childhood dream of becoming a freestyle wrestler. Last year the film scored more than $10 million at the home box office becoming the kingdom’s highest grossing local title since Saudi Arabia revoked a 35-year ban on the operation of commercial movie theaters in Dec. 2017.
“Alzarfa” is about three friends who end up behind bars after a failed heist attempt. Having absconded from the slammer, they subsequently wind up in a movie being bankrolled by a wealthy Saudi tycoon about his family’s history that is...

Kino Lorber has picked up U.S. rights to Johan Grimonprez’s Sundance-winning documentary Soundtrack to a Coup d’Etat, which traces how the U.S. used “Jazz Ambassadors” like Louis Armstrong, Nina Simone and Duke Ellington, to build goodwill during the Cold War all while orchestrating clandestine operations to destabilize the Congo.
Kino Lorber will partner with specialist streamer Kanopy on the U.S. release of the film. Soundtrack to a Coup d’Etat marks Lorber’s second collaboration with Grimonprez following their 2010 release of his hybrid doc-drama Double Take, which stitches together clips from Alfred Hitchcock’s films and TV work, together with 50s news footage and commercials, to tell a fictional story of Cold War paranoia.

In his critically acclaimed documentary, I Am Not Your Negro, Raoul Peck surveyed James Baldwin’s legacy and its contemporary resonance through the writer’s own words. Working from one of Baldwin’s unfinished manuscripts, Peck wrote a screenplay that Samuel L. Jackson then read over archival images and videos. The Haitian filmmaker returns to this speculative mode in his most recent feature, Ernest Cole: Lost and Found, a propulsive and weighty documentary about the South African photographer who chronicled the inhumanity of apartheid for the world.
Premiering at Cannes as a special screening, Ernest Cole: Lost and Found is an introspective memoir punched up with the elements of a thriller. The discovery of a trove of Cole’s photo negatives in a Swedish bank safe inspired Peck to reappraise the photographer’s legacy. This project comes on the heels of a minor renaissance for Cole, whose 1967 book House of...

The uncut gem of this year’s Cannes competition, “Anora” is a rowdy Safdie-style movie about two cultures (Russian and American), two languages (Russian and English) and two currencies (money and sex). Like countless Hollywood fantasies that have come before, it tells the story of how young people from different worlds fall in love, run into immediate obstacles and deal with the consequences — except the couple in this case consists of a New York stripper and the reckless son of a Russian oligarch. How long would you give it?
Director Sean Baker describes “Anora” as a Cinderella story, but that’s only true to the extent that his Walt Disney World-adjacent “The Florida Project” could be seen as a fairy tale. Baker’s subversively romantic, free-wheeling sex farce makes “Pretty Woman” look like a Disney movie. It follows on the (knee-high boot) heels of four other films in which...

Sean Baker’s “Anora,” a hilarious yet touching drama in which a sex worker falls in love with the son of a Russian oligarch, energized Cannes Film Festival with a 7.5-minute standing ovation on Tuesday.
As the crowd applauded, the indie maverick director and Cannes darling said into the microphone, “Thank you to the Cannes Film Festival for making dreams come true … And also thank you to all of you for coming out and seeing our film on the best screen in the world. Long live cinema!”
The ovation wasn’t the only chance for applause — the audience erupted into cheers numerous times during the two-hour film, including on several occasions during one wild scene in which the oligarch’s associates raid his son’s mansion.
In the film, Mikey Madison plays Anora, a 23-year-old working at a strip club outside of New York City. Her luck changes when she...

When “Agatha All Along” premieres on Disney+ in September, the series will not open with the traditional Marvel Studios logo — as has been the case with (almost) every previous series from the Kevin Feige-led division since “WandaVision” premiered in 2021. Instead, the company is rebranding its streaming efforts as Marvel Television for live-action series and Marvel Animation for its animated shows, which launched with the just-concluded first season of “X-Men ’97.”
The rebrands are meant to help Marvel disabuse audiences from the pervasive impression that its content is one unified narrative experience that must be consumed in its totality.

It is a paradoxical but nonetheless true statement to say that the retro-leaning L.A. rock band Redd Kross was far ahead of their time — not just musically (the power-pop resurgence of the early ‘90s) but also in pop-culture worship and the irony that saturated the 1990s. But their comic take on those things obscures not just what a great rock band they were and still are, but also the fact that they’re legit OGs on any number of levels.
Formed by brothers Jeff and Steve McDonald, they were initially an L.A. punk rock band whose first gig was opening for the legendary Black Flag when they were virtually children. Then, they decided to rebel against the punk scene by committing the ultimate sin: growing their hair and donning garish ‘70s clothes, and recording a battery of songs about everything from teen “Exorcist” star Linda Blair to the Brady Bunch.

Pixar was hit with layoffs on Tuesday as approximately 175 employees, or 14% of its workforce, were let go.
In a note to staff, Pixar president Jim Morris said that individuals who have been impacted by the layoffs will be notified on Tuesday. “Calendar invites to speak with a leader have already gone out to those individuals, and we anticipate we will have connected with everyone impacted by the end of the day,” he wrote.
Pixar employees have been bracing for layoffs since January, but cuts were smaller than the speculated 20% reduction that was reported at the time.

The long-expected layoffs at Pixar Animation Studios have begun.
Today, leadership at the storied company that traces it origins to the late Steve Jobs and was bought by Disney in 2006 will notify employees of the reductions, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. It is the biggest restructuring in Pixar’s history, although top leadership isn’t impacted.
Approximately 14 percent of Pixar’s workforce, or around 175 employees, will be let go. Before the reductions, approximately 1,300 people worked at the animation studio.
The layoffs are part of Disney chief Bob Iger’s overarching mandate to return to a focus on quality, versus churning out content for streaming which was a priority for his sort-lived successor, Bob Chapek. Disney execs have talked about returning to a focus on quality during numerous earnings calls this year, saying creative teams across the company were stretched too thin in the arms race to feed streamers.

The two-part documentary, from exec producers Eminem and LeBron James, will debut June 11 in the U.S. and Canada on Paramount+ and the following day in the U.K., Australia, Latin America, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Italy.
The series, which premiered at SXSW earlier this year, “details the fascinating, and often funny, inside story of the technology-driven disruption that changed music during the late-’90s and early-2000s. File sharing technology, combined with the insatiable demand for new music, created both the means and the motive for millions of young people to participate in outright theft — and be celebrated for it.”
Alexandria Stapleton (Reggie) directs the doc, which is produced by Warner Bros. Unscripted Television, James’ SpringHill banner, Interscope Films and Shady Films.

Prince Harry cannot expand his privacy lawsuit against the publisher of U.K. tabloid The Sun to include allegations against media mogul Rupert Murdoch and presenter Piers Morgan, a London judge has ruled.
The Duke of Sussex’s lawyers were hoping to sue over claims that Murdoch and other top executives were part of an effort to conceal and destroy evidence of unlawful information gathering. The prince alleges that he was targeted by journalists and private investigators working for News Group Newspapers (Ngn) titles The Sun and the now-defunct News Of The World, which closed in 2011.
In March, he sought to amend his case to add new allegations, including that The Sun ordered private investigators to target his now-wife Meghan in 2016. He was further refused permission to push the timeline of the case back to 1994 and 1995, to include allegations involving his late mother, Princess Diana, as Judge Timothy Fancourt of...

Polish composer Jan A.P. Kaczmarek, who won a 2004 Oscar for “Finding Neverland,” died Tuesday in Krakow, the Polish Music Foundation announced. He was 71 and had suffered from Multiple System Atrophy (Msa) in recent years.
Also among Kaczmarek’s 50-plus film and television scores, mostly from the 1990s and 2000s, were “Unfaithful,” “Bliss,” “Aimee and Jaguar,” “The Visitor” and “Get Low.” He also scored the lavish four-part French-Italian miniseries of “War and Peace” in 2007.
Kaczmarek had one of the most unusual backgrounds of any film composer of his time. Born in Konin in 1953, he was educated as a lawyer. But he abandoned a planned career as a diplomat to compose music for an experimental theater company, headed by avant-garde theater director Jerzy Grotowski, in Poznan during the 1970s.
He formed his own ensemble, the Orchestra of the Eighth Day, which toured Europe in the late 1970s and early 1980s, releasing an LP,...
