Squid Game breakout star Lee Jung-jae may have played a Jedi Master in the upcoming The Acolyte, but he imagines his Sol being trained by a legendary Star Wars character. If the South Korean actor has his way, he wants Qui-Gon Jinn as Sol’s maverick Jedi Master.
On Tuesday, June 4, viewers will finally see the story of Jedi Master Sol as he investigates the Jedi killings with his former Padawan Osha, played by Amandla Stenberg, in The Acolyte.
Knowing the responsibility and the influence a Jedi Master has in the franchise, Jung-jae reveals his inspiration to play his part perfectly.
In an interview with Digital Spy, the 51-year-old star revealed that he had watched many Star Wars TV shows and films to learn from the actors who had played Jedi Master roles in the past.

The Star Wars franchise’s topsy-turvy journey throughout the years has been well-known by fans. The original trilogy was beloved by all, but the prequel trilogy was not as well received. Much hate has been given to the incoherent plot, boring characters, and inferior special effects of the prequel films.

When George Lucas’ Star Wars: Episode IV- A New Hope was released in 1977, it revolutionized the sci-fi genre. The film series combined classic themes with compelling storylines and well-written characters. Everything was neatly integrated with jaw-dropping visual effects and surreal world-building, making the audience fall in love with the series and have a massive impact on pop culture.

However, Leslye Headland, the showrunner of The Acolyte has shared her views on the original trilogy having political undertones and Lucas deliberately made the films in that manner to appeal to his audience. Interestingly, Headland’s upcoming show has been criticized by fans because her upcoming show is blasted by fans for being too woke, and how the theme of her show is similar to the very idea of the creator of the original films.

The Star Wars franchise keeps expanding, and we are not complaining! The next step for the sci-fi franchise that has long become a cultural phenomenon is Star Wars: The Acolyte. The television series was created by Leslye Headland and will be released on Disney+. The series is set before the events of the main Star Wars films and will focus on a Jedi investigating a series of crimes. Sounds interesting, doesn’t it?

What’s more intriguing is the fact that The Acolyte will feature a weapon that is new to the live-action universe – the lightwhip. Now, just mere days before the premiere of the series, showrunner Lesley Headland dropped the bomb that The Acolyte will have yet another lightsaber in the spotlight, something which even baffled the prop department.

After ages, it looked like the Star Wars franchise finally found a savior in Leslye Headland’s The Acolyte because it was everything that the franchise was missing. Moreover, Lucasfilm productions were vehemently criticized by fans for creating a new trilogy that ridiculed the original six films, discarding every rule and canonical event that had previously taken place.

Fans were ecstatic over the upcoming TV series as it had an air of mystery and thriller; being a series that is set before the prequel trilogy makes it impossible to overlook any canon event that took place in the franchise. Everything was going smoothly until Charlie Barnett decided to portray himself as a fake fan of the sci-fi franchise, and made a grave blunder regarding Darth Vader.

With just a few days to go until Star Wars: The Acolyte premiere on Disney+, the latest TV spot for the show offers a terrifying new glimpse at its mysterious Sith villain. The more we see of that helmet, the closer it looks to what Kylo Ren donned in the sequel trilogy.
Darth Vader's grandson being inspired by a powerful Sith from the past wouldn't be a huge surprise and this mysterious character clearly plays a pivotal role in bringing the Sith back to prominence.
Given The Acolyte's place in the Star Wars timeline, it still seems likely that Darth Plagueis or Darth Tenebrous is beneath the mask. However, Lucasfilm may be planning to make some significant changes to much of the lore established in Expanded Universe stories.

It’s widely known that there’s a social divide within the Star Wars fandom. Recently, there’s been increased attention on female leads and representation in live-action projects. While some fans welcome this change, others criticize it.
The criticisms vary. Some fans hold misogynistic views, while many others feel that the inclusion of female and minority characters feels forced and lacks depth, making the overall products less enjoyable.
The impending launch of ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ has once again divided fans. Some criticize the show for its female-led narrative and perceived agenda, while others applaud the ongoing evolution of Star Wars. Kathleen Kennedy recently remarked on the challenges of being female in the franchise, and Leslye Headland echoed this sentiment, stating in a recent interview with the New York Times that bigots cannot truly be Star Wars fans.

It’s not a secret that Star Wars fandom is facing sort of a social crisis. In recent times, much of the focus of the franchise has been put on female leads and representation within live-action projects. Some fans consider it to be a good thing, while some are criticizing that direction.
The reasons behind the criticism are numerous, some fans are genuinely misogynistic, but a vast majority feel that the female and minority representation feels forced and therefore falls flat and bland, being there just for the sake of being there, which makes the overall products all that worse.
The upcoming release of ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte once again polarized fandom, with some of the fans criticizing the show for being female-led and spreading the agenda and part of the fandom praising the continued direction of Star Wars. Recently, Kathleen Kennedy said that it’s terrifying to be female in Star Wars,...

With its list of new releases for June 2024, Disney+ isn’t going to beat the “only a Star Wars and Marvel streamer” allegations. That’s because there is just one major new release and it’s of the Star Wars variety.
Thankfully, Star Wars: The Acolyte, premiering on June 4, sounds pretty good! This series from Leslye Headland (Russian Doll) is set during the end of the High Republic era and will follow a respected Jedi master (played by Squid Game‘s Lee Jung-jae) investigating a crime that brings him back into contact with his former Padawan (Amandla Stenberg).
Aside from that, Disney+ has little else going on this month. But a fresh Star War and more episodes of Doctor Who should be enough for most of us.

Marvel Studios has a rather odd calendar in store for 2024. After years of lining up a slew of movies and shows post the Avengers: Endgame storyline, it has dialed back significantly with Deadpool & Wolverine standing out as its sole release for the year. Regardless, the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman starrer has raked in sufficient hype and nostalgia to sail forward as one of the most anticipated Marvel movies in recent times, setting up the stage for a mega box-office showdown.

We're expecting to see some big cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine when it arrives in theaters later this summer.
However, it would be wise to keep expectations in check; after all, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness featured the likes of Professor X and Mister Fantastic but was somehow still deemed a disappointment by many fans (likely because rumours promised Spider-Man and an evil Iron Man played by Tom Cruise).
With that in mind, Deadpool & Wolverine might not be as star-studded as expected, especially with Avengers: Secret Wars on the horizon. Still, we're bound to see some characters from the X-Men franchise's past, right?
Appearing at the London premiere for Star Wars: The Acolyte earlier this week, Logan star Dafne Keen was asked whether she's "sad" not to be reprising her role as Laura in the upcoming Marvel Studios threequel.

Summer is no time for sadness, with new shows debuting throughout the season. With the official 2024 Emmys deadline now in the rearview, June is when the TV calendar resets, with new and returning shows now eligible for next year’s awards ceremony… but we’re getting ahead of ourselves.
June’s new TV lineup includes a handful of book adaptations, including Hulu’s “Queenie” starring Dionne Brown, Apple’s “Presumed Innocent” with Renate Reinsve and Jake Gyllenhaal as well as Eva Longoria-starrer “Land of Women,” and Prime Video’s “My Lady Jane,” based on the YA series The Lady Janies (and loosely on some Tudor history… very loosely). Shows like “Clipped” and “Becoming Karl Lagerfeld” stem from books about real people and events, while on the reality front there’s also Peacock’s “Queer Planet” and a docuseries about the Dallas Cowboys’ Cheerleader squad on Netflix. The prequels raised the bar for what "Star Wars" fight scenes could do, giving us Jedi jumps and flips that really sold the idea of the Jedi being awesome, superhuman warriors revered throughout the galaxy. Now, "The Acolyte" is bringing wuxia martial arts action to the franchise for a new type of Jedi choreography that we've never seen before — and judging from the first trailer, we are in for a treat. Indeed, there is one fight scene in "The Acolyte" that is trying to beat the Darth Maul fight from "The Phantom Menace" and give us the best fight scene in all of "Star Wars," according to Dafne Keen.
But making "The Acolyte" was not all serious business: there was also a lot of fun to be had — especially if you played a Jedi.

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ is the next chapter in the ‘Star Wars’ franchise, coming to Disney+ on June 4th. It promises a completely different adventure.
Set during the High Republic Era, known as the Golden Age of the Jedi Order, the show aims to show that Jedi don’t have a monopoly on the Force and can be villains too, given the right context.
Since the show is set in a completely different time period from the rest of the live-action franchise, many fans wondered if Yoda, one of the most notable Jedi, could appear. The timeline would fit, given his species’ long lifespan.
However, the show’s creator, Leslye Headland, clarified that Yoda or any other familiar characters from the past won’t appear in the show.
Can you imagine? Can you imagine if they were like, ‘No problem, you can use Yoda. Not a big deal. Go for it.

Kathleen Kennedy is familiar with the difficulties that women often face in the male-dominated Star Wars world.
In a brief conversation with The New York Times, Kennedy opened up about Leslye Headland’s upcoming series The Acolyte, and how she has faced misogyny as the head of Lucasfilm.
“Operating within these giant franchises now, with social media and the level of expectation — it’s terrifying,” she told the publication. “I think Leslye has struggled a little bit with it. I think a lot of the women who step into Star Wars struggle with this a bit more. Because of the fan base being so male-dominated, they sometimes get attacked in ways that can be quite personal.”
Kennedy’s comments come ahead of the release of the Disney+ series, which some in the fandom are already slamming for its inclusion of several women and people of color in powerful positions.

Star Wars will be getting a new show next month called The Acolyte. The mystery thriller show is reportedly set before the events of the Star Wars films (even the prequels) and follows the murder of multiple Jedi Knights. Russian Doll creator Leslye Headland acts as the creator and showrunner of the Disney+ series.
While the show has been in the making for the past four years, it has reportedly cost Disney a lot of money. According to a new report, the eight-episode series cost the studio $180 million, which is a lot considering the show features none of the characters previously seen in the franchise. Even the Ewan McGregor starring Obi-Wan Kenobi had a budget of $90 million.

Every fandom has its share of toxic elements, but it's probably fair to say that Disney-era Star Wars has experienced more negativity and backlash from a certain contingent of fans than any other franchise over the past few years.
There was the expected amount of pushback to Daisy Ridley being announced as the lead of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but it really picked up when her character, Rey, was deemed to be a "Mary Sue." The toxicity arguably reached a crescendo when Kelly Marie-Tran's Rose Tico was introduced in The Last Jedi, but the general perception among some fans that Star Wars has become too pandering in its representation and inclusivity continues.
With The Acolyte - a new Disney+ series from showrunner Leslye Headland featuring a primarily female cast - on the horizon, Lucasfilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy acknowledged that coming aboard the franchise can be a "terrifying" experience for female filmmakers and actors.

It’s no secret that the Star Wars fandom is going through some social issues. Recently, the franchise has focused more on female leads and representation in its live-action projects. Some fans think this is great, while others criticize this direction.
The reasons for the criticism vary. Some fans are genuinely misogynistic, but many feel that the female and minority representation seems forced and ends up feeling flat and bland, just being included for the sake of it, which they believe makes the overall product worse.
Kathleen Kennedy and the female leads of Star Wars shows and movies often face attacks. The most recent example is ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte,’ which has been heavily criticized and boycotted online even though it hasn’t aired a single episode yet.

One of the main attractions of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is the large number of cameos and variants set to appear in the movie. So far, over 25 characters from Fox’s old ‘X-Men’ series and other properties are rumored or confirmed to be in the film.

One of the biggest selling points of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ seems to be the unprecedented amount of cameos and variants set to appear in the movie. So far, we have over 25 characters from former Fox’s ‘X-Men’ franchise and other properties either rumored to appear or confirmed to appear.
One of them is Dafne Keen’s Laura. Although the character was never explicitly confirmed to be in the movie, fans have assumed as much since Wolverine’s past, or at least the past of one of his variants seems to heavily nod toward the character.

During an interview with the New York Times for upcoming Disney+ series The Acolyte, Kennedy admitted that female filmmakers “struggle” with fan backlash.
Leslye Headland is the showrunner for The Acolyte, which some fans have already dubbed The Wokelyte for having a diverse cast. That’s despite the series not having premiered yet.
“Operating within these giant franchises now, with social media and the level of expectation — it’s terrifying,” Kennedy said. “I think Leslye has struggled a little bit with it. I think a lot of the women who step into Star Wars struggle with this a bit more. Because of the fan base being so male-dominated, they sometimes get attacked in ways that can be quite personal. My belief is that storytelling does need to be representative of all people.

In a new interview with The New York Times for the upcoming “Star Wars” series “The Acolyte,” Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said she is aware that women in the space franchise are often attacked online more than men “because of the fan base being so male dominated.” Female stars Daisy Ridley and Kelly Marie Tran certainly faced online harassment from toxic fans when the most recent “Star Wars” film trilogy was released, and now “The Acolyte” is already being attacked in certain corners of the fandom.
“The Acolyte” is an original story created by Leslye Headland that’s set long before the events of “The Phantom Menace.” Headland, known for directing films such as “Sleeping With Other People” and co-creating Netflix’s hit comedy series “Russian Doll,” is the first woman to serve as showrunner of a “Star Wars” series. Her show includes major new female “Star Wars” characters played...

5 Things We Want To See In Star Wars: The Acolyte - Main Image
Star Wars: The Acolyte will give fans their first proper look at the Jedi during the High Republic Era in live action. Though the events during this time remain mostly a mystery, viewers want to see several things play out in the new series.
The Acolyte will feature the Jedi near the end of High Republic as they investigate a string of Jedi killings in the galaxy.
From there, they’re about to uncover evil forces hiding in the shadows.
With its open-ended nature in Star Wars history, here are the five things we want to see in The Acolyte.
Sith Holocrons
The Acolyte will feature the emergence of the Dark Side, so it’s only reasonable that the show uses the ancient Sith Holocron.
A Holocron is an information-storage device used by both the Jedi and the Sith.
